Along the way, "I had this idea for the breakup bootcamp," she says, a place where people who'd recently gone through a breakup could find solace and comfort together. Despite writing out the vision for breakup bootcamp in 2015, "I was too scared" to make it happen immediately, she says. That's why, now, her best advice for turning your passion into a career is "whatever it is," she says, "just launch it." Finally, in February 2017, she launched the first breakup bootcamp. They laid out a potential career path as a breakup coach and, in August 2017, she finally left her job in marketing to launch into her relationship-oriented career full-time.

The CFPB and state attorneys general sued a career boot camp that declared bankruptcy in 2022. Prehired sued nearly 300 former students last year, saying they'd defaulted on their loans. "Prehired also represented that consumers would pay nothing until they got a job and 'partner[ed] with' Prehired in their career. The lawsuit also accused Prehired of "falsely representing the amount of debt owed by consumers by stating that Prehired could collect more than the consumer legally owed." The complaint said Prehired filed more than 280 lawsuits in 2022 demanding that former students who it said had defaulted pay $25,000 each.

China faces a shortage of an estimated 200,000 industry workers this year, according to a white paper jointly published by the China Center for Information Industry Development, a government think tank, and the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA), a trade group. A 2022 survey from Chinese research firm ICWise found more than 60% of students studying chip engineering in China graduate with no internship experience in the field. In Taiwan, top chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) (2330.TW) has established research centres at four universities. Its largest chip foundry, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) (0981.HK), in 2021 announced a jointly-established School of Integrated Circuits at Shenzhen Technology University. "If I didn't switch to chip engineering, I would probably have to find a job in a traditional manufacturing industry like cars or machinery," he said.

Leaked documents also showed that BloomTech's job placement rates were much lower than advertised, Insider previously reported.
A growing wave of layoffs might be sweeping through Silicon Valley, but the hottest job on the market right now is in tech: full-stack developer. Not only does this job pay well — the average mean salary for full-stack developers is $129,637, per Indeed's research — but it also offers a lot of workplace flexibility. At least 50% of the listings for full-stack developers on Indeed's database have remote or hybrid options. "More and more, companies have been hiring full-stack developers to reduce headcount on their application, development or general web teams," she adds. You can become a full-stack developer without a college degree.

Employers are more open to new ways of finding and evaluating job candidates, and those that move swiftly in this direction will build more resilient teams. Broader talent poolWhen employers use degrees as a proxy for skills, they miss out on half of the workforce, as Opportunity@Work’s research has shown. LinkedIn data suggests that certain industries – like professional services, finance and tech – are some of the hardest sectors for workers without bachelor’s degrees to break into. It can also spur greater diversity, since 61% of Black workers, 55% of Hispanic workers, 66% of rural workers and 61% of veteran workers have in-demand skills but not bachelor’s degrees. Recognizing the diverse ways skills are acquired and adopting a skills-first approach to talent will bring greater transparency, efficiency and equity to the labor market, making it easier for anyone from anywhere to achieve anything.
