Lamb Weston was the worst-performing stock in the S & P 500 on Wednesday on the back of disappointing quarterly results. The Idaho-based supplier of frozen potato, sweet potato, appetizer and vegetable products to restaurants said fully diluted earnings per share fell more than 70% from the year-earlier period. Consequently, the stock price fell over 28% on Wednesday. At ~ 1.2x price to sales, Lamb Weston is the cheapest it has been in the past ten years. Some of that increase is justifiable; the company demonstrated considerably higher operating volatility than they or investors expected, and the debt-to-equity increase as a function of the stock price decline is also a contributor.

Smoke rises from Israeli artillery shelling in Dahaira, in southern Lebanon, at the border with Israel on October 16. Hussein Malla/APIsraeli soldiers patrol a road near the border with Lebanon, on Monday, amid threat of a regional conflict between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah. It is an ominous sign of what may come if the situation on the Lebanon-Israel border combusts into a full-scale war. By Friday morning, three Israeli soldiers and three Hezbollah fighters had been killed in the exchanges across the border. On Sunday, the Lebanese militants fired at several Israeli locations at the border, killing one civilian and one soldier.

TOULON, France, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Wales' influential flyhalf Dan Biggar will start this weekend's Rugby World Cup quarter-final against Argentina in Marseille with Tommy Reffell named on Thursday in place of the injured Taulupe Faleatu. Along with Biggar, Wales also named experienced fullback Liam Williams for Saturday's match despite him being taken off with a knee injury in their final pool match last weekend, a 43-19 win over Georgia in Nantes. Williams was later seen using crutches but coaching staff this week said it was a precautionary measure to take weight off his leg. “It’s exciting to enter into the knockout stages of the tournament and we are ready for the challenge of a quarter-final. We haven't had the perfect performance yet, but we have shown that we are a hard team to beat.

All Blacks report clean bill of health going into Italy match

LYON, France, Sept 26 (Reuters) - The four players on the injury list before the All Blacks headed off to southwest France for the bye week, including skipper Sam Cane, are available for selection for Friday's match against Italy, assistant coach Jason Ryan said on Tuesday. Openside flanker Cane was named to start the tournament opening loss to hosts France at Stade de France but was withdrawn shortly before the match kicked off with a back problem. Frizell, who started at blindside flanker throughout New Zealand's Rugby Championship triumph, has been struggling with a hamstring problem, forcing Foster to tinker with his back row. New Zealand will be without loosehead prop Ethan de Groot for the match in Lyon as he serves the first match in a two-game ban for a dangerous tackle in New Zealand's 71-3 win over Namibia. SAINT-ETIENNE, Sept 14 (Reuters) - All Blacks loose forward Luke Jacobson is excited to see what he can bring to the party as starting blindside flanker against Namibia on Friday as New Zealand look to get their World Cup campaign back on track in Toulouse. Coach Ian Foster instead elected to bring Tupou Vaa'i, who normally plays lock, off the bench to play blindside and switched Dalton Papali'i to the openside flank in place of Cane. Jacobson did get a decent run off the bench as New Zealand chased the game in the second half but was relishing the chance to be on the pitch from the start this week. Like all of the New Zealand forwards, Jacobson will be desperate to stay on the right side of the referee after the All Blacks were heavily penalised against France. "(But) we know that we need to be winning to win this competition regardless, so I don't think a whole lot changes from now."

Lydia Polgreen on ‘Survivor’ - The New York Times

America Is ... We asked 17 columnists topick the one piece of culture thatbest captures the country. The show had grand ambitions: Jeff Probst, the host, repeatedly referred to “Survivor” as “the greatest social experiment.”Scroll to watch and read moreIt’s also a uniquely American experiment. Most strikingly, the show takes on — admittedly, in a ham-fisted way — the biggest divides in American society: gender, sexuality, race, age, class. One of the most admired and rewarded feats on “Survivor” is the blindside: voting off someone who thinks you are an ally. “Survivor” reminds us that living in our panopticon, with cameras in every pocket, we are content creators all, delivering a performance of ourselves.

When Gloria Richards isn't acting on off-Broadway stages, she travels with billionaires' kids, often whom she's never met, across the world. Richards spends half of each year nannying for the ultra-wealthy to supplement her income between off-Broadway and one-woman shows in New York City and Virginia. "What feeds me is being able to work so closely with these kids." Nannying for the ultra-wealthy isn't always about childcare: She spends most of her working hours coordinating children's educational and social calendars. She gets paid up to $2,000 per day for 12 to 15 hours of work, she says.
What to expect from the February jobs report

Minneapolis CNN —January’s jobs report delivered a heck of a surprise when it showed the US economy had added more than half a million jobs and unemployment had dipped to a level not seen in more than five decades. But economists say they are not bracing for another blindside when the February jobs report comes out on Friday morning. “If we get a second strong jobs report [on Friday], it’s no longer an anomaly,” Terrazas added. Seasonality, benchmarking and the interplay of pandemic-era data don’t completely explain away January’s blockbuster jobs report, economists say, noting there are likely influences from the currently tight labor market. The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ February jobs report is set to be released at 8:30 a.m.

But economists say they are not bracing for another blindside when the February jobs report comes out on Friday. “I think most economists were comfortable dismissing the January jobs data as an anomaly,” Aaron Terrazas, Glassdoor’s chief economist, told CNN. “If we get a second strong jobs report [on Friday], it’s no longer an anomaly,” Terrazas added. Trump will not commit to supporting the 2024 GOP nominee. Trump told Nikki Haley she should run for president if she wanted to, but called her "overly ambitious." Trump is the only 2024 candidate to have declared that he's running for president, though former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is expected to be next. "I don't want to say," Trump said. Hewitt on Thursday pressed Trump repeatedly about what his nicknames would be for potential 2024 challengers, but the former president wouldn't share them.
The most chilling moment in Gerard Johnstone’s new horror film, “M3GAN,” comes early. Its wildly popular — and immediately viral — trailer seems to give away the entire story, beat by beat, but what it can’t convey is the picture’s delightfully oddball tone, which is poised at a peculiar juncture of slasher horror and self-aware satire. Gemma, dressed in flannels, so you know she’s an antisocial nerd, has developed M3GAN, short for Model 3 Generative ANdroid. As a character, M3GAN is a marvel of design, combining body actor (Amie Donald), voice (Jenna Davis), animatronics, makeup and special effects. (“Humanity kills every day, just to make its existence more bearable,” M3GAN cackles, presumably after doing some online reading about Apple and Foxconn’s Longhua facility.)
They should also check their accomplishments monthly, quarterly, and annually to better position themselves. This article is part of Women of Means, a series about women taking charge of their finances. A January survey from Glassdoor found that employed women were 19% less likely to ask for more money in the next year than men. Only 48% of employed women surveyed, compared with 59% of employed men, plan to ask for a pay raise, bonus or cost-of-living increase in the next 12 months. During the pandemic, 73% of employed women polled haven't asked for a pay raise, compared with 58% of employed men.
Hutchinson told the panel that her Trump-aligned lawyer advised her to mislead lawmakers. ""Look, we want to get you in, get you out," Hutchinson said Passantino told her before the appearance. Reach out to them," Hutchinson told the panel, paraphrasing what Passantino told her of a job offer connected to former top Trump aide Jason Miller. Hutchinson said she told Farah, who was also a former House aide, to back channel with the January 6 committee. Former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson arrives for her public testimony in front of the January 6 committee.
New York CNN —One of Wall Street’s top executives is worried about a repeat of 2008. But Wilson is warning clients about a looming plunge in corporate profits next year as the economy stumbles. “The earnings recession by itself could be similar to what transpired in 2008/2009,” the Morgan Stanley exec wrote in a report on Monday. “We often hear from clients that everyone knows earnings are too high next year, and therefore, the market has priced it,” he wrote. Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth Management, told CNN late last week that investors may be overreacting to signs of more interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve.
