WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. George Santos of New York is facing a critical vote to expel him from the House on Friday as lawmakers weigh whether his actions, fabrications and alleged lawbreaking warrant the chamber's most severe punishment. “I will not stand by quietly,” Santos declared on the House floor Thursday as lawmakers debated his removal. But some Republicans, including Santos' colleagues from New York, said voters will welcome lawmakers being held to a higher standard. In early March, the House Ethics Committee announced it was launching an investigation into Santos. ___Follow the AP's coverage of U.S. Rep. But researchers have found that when someone does admit they were wrong, they are not seen as less competent. As a psychology expert, I've found that highly likable and successful are "admitters," and they aren't afraid to say three simple words: "I was wrong." The key is to remind yourself that even though your behavior was wrong, you can change it in the future. And just because you are admitting wrongdoing, that doesn't mean you are saying you're a bad person. When someone tells you that you're wrong, instead of immediately jumping to the defensive, get curious about why they're saying that to you.

When it comes to emotional spending, "the deck is stacked against us," says financial psychologist and certified financial planner Brad Klontz. Roughly 75% of both millennials and Gen Z admit to emotional spending, possibly because they're less likely to think about their retirement funds when clicking "buy." "But as you're pulling the trigger, you're pretty excited about this thing you're buying." While emotional spending is a common habit, it's not one you want to turn into a bigger problem. Nearly 40% of emotional spenders say they've gone into debt because of it, and Klontz warns of the stress that emotional spending can put on your finances and relationships.

Details of these verbal assurances stipulated that OpenAI employees who quit would receive the same amount of total compensation they receive at OpenAI should they be hired by Microsoft. What Microsoft can and can't do comes down to what CEO Satya Nadella wants to see happen at his company, a Microsoft employee said. Ultimately, a move to Microsoft is not what OpenAI employees really wish to happen. Although everyone who signed the letter has shown they are willing to work for Microsoft, so long as Altman is there, too, they have little desire to work there. The company is enormous compared to OpenAI, with a reputation for bureaucracy, slower work and lower pay, one of the employees said.

Santos easily survived an expulsion vote earlier this month as lawmakers in both parties stressed the need to allow due process, as Santos is also facing nearly two dozen charges in federal court. The Ethics Committee referred its findings to the Justice Department, serving up new evidence that could potentially play into the federal charges against Santos. Several other members of the Ethics panel have also come out in favor of expulsion now that the investigation is complete. The Ethics panel appointed to investigate Santos met nine times over the course of its investigation, interviewed more than 40 witnesses and authorized 37 subpoenas. The panel also described Santos as uncooperative with their investigation, declining to voluntarily testify or provide a statement under oath.
