June 6 (Reuters) - Veteran Hollywood producer Peter Chernin said on Tuesday his company North Road has bought Turkish film and television house Karga Seven Pictures in one of its first major international acquisitions. Los Angeles-Istanbul-based Karga Seven is best known for its popular English-language period piece, "Rise of Empires: Ottoman", and Turkish time travel drama, "Midnight at the Pera Palace", which were among Netflix's top shows. Karga Seven's founders Sarah Wetherbee, Emre Sahin and Kelly McPherson will remain in leadership roles, with Wetherbee and Sahin serving as global co-CEOs and reporting to North Road President Jan Frouman. McPherson will head English-language content, along with newly hired Ömer Müjdat Özgüner serving as the company's Turkey CEO. Analysts on Wall Street are bullish on are bullish on a swath of railroad stocks, but one in particular stands out. Wells Fargo upgraded Norfolk Southern stock to overweight on Monday, with a $250 per share price target. NSC YTD mountain Norfolk Southern stock. A key shipping company just received two upgrades on new management additions that could underpin a strong rally. Citi upgraded shares of XPO from neutral to buy on Thursday, while JPMorgan Chase went from neutral to overweight on Friday. TFI in 2021 became one of the top carriers in the U.S. less-than-truckload sector when it bought United Parcel Service Inc.’s freight business for $800 million. TFI CEO and President Alain Bédard said on the Feb. 6 earnings call that TFI is looking for opportunities to work with ArcBest. TFI executives said they see ways to save money working together with ArcBest, analysts at Cowen wrote in a Feb. 14 note summarizing a meeting they had with TFI management. The Cowen analysts wrote TFI is well placed to take over ArcBest’s unionized workforce because it already works with the Teamsters union at TForce Freight. ArcBest shares are up about 14% since TFI disclosed its stake.
After the mishaps of 2022, FedEx is "getting serious" about reducing and controlling its costs and that should bode well for the shipping giant, according to Citi. FDX YTD mountain FedEx shares are up nearly 17% in 2023. FedEx said in December it plans to cut costs by $1 billion in 2023 by closing offices and parking planes as demand softens and global volumes declines. The analyst also upgraded FedEx to buy and lifted the his price target to $233 from $204 a share, citing increasing confidence in the company's outlook. FedEx shares have jumped nearly 17% in 2023 after a 33% decline in 2022.

Rail Shippers Brace for Potential National Strike

Companies from food suppliers in the Midwest to retail importers across the U.S. are bracing for a potential national rail strike by seeking alternative transport to keep their supply chains running. Tens of thousands of American workers are on strike and thousands more are attempting to unionize. “We believe the potential for a rail work stoppage is growing,” Citi’s Christian Wetherbee wrote in a research note Wednesday. Other shippers will have to hold on to cargo if the rail network shuts down. U.S. railroads hauled more than 18,000 carloads of grains over the past week, according to the Association of American Railroads.
