AdvertisementI've lived near Glacier National Park for 35 years and know it can get hectic in the summer months. Montana's Glacier National Park typically sees over 2 million visitors between May and August each year. Although I love taking in the park's beauty in the warmer seasons, this spike in visitation can often lead to long lines to enter the park. However, after living near the park for 35 years, I've discovered the best time to visit is during the less-chaotic winter months. Visiting Glacier National Park in the winter requires a bit more planning, but in my opinion, it's worth it.

The first emperor penguin found in Australia has been released after spending 20 days in the care of a wildlife expert, the Australian government said Friday. The bird, nicknamed Gus by its caretaker, was released from a vessel off the southern coast of Western Australia on Wednesday morning, according to the state’s Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. The team initially weighed the penguin at about 50 pounds, only around half the weight of a healthy male. “Good luck, Gus,” Biddulph shouted with a smile after the penguin dived into the water and swam away from the vessel. Combined with rainfall from Wednesday, a potentially record-breaking 16 inches or more of rainfall is possible through Thursday. This low is expected to “bomb out” or undergo “bombogenesis,” which is the decrease in pressure of 24 millibars in 24 hours. Even without making landfall, bomb cyclones can be deadlyAlthough the first storm never made landfall, historic bomb cyclones can still bring devastating effects. The weather is getting chilly in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere, but but cold weather doesn’t mean that you have to stop your exercise routines. According to one recent study, people who achieved this amount of exercise per week had a 31% lower risk of mortality, 27% lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease, and 12% lower risk of developing cancer compared with inactive participants. Importantly, those who achieved just half this amount (75 minutes per week) also had substantial health benefits, with a 23% lower risk of early death, a 17% lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease, and 7% lower risk of developing cancer. Are you someone used to cold weather exercise, or are you trying it for the first time? On very cold days, and especially if you are not used to cold weather exercise, go with someone else.
