The bill must still clear the House of Lords and parliamentary committees, but Friday’s vote marked the most important hurdle. Walmart on Monday confirmed that it’s ending some of its diversity initiatives, removing some LGBTQ-related merchandise from its website and winding down a nonprofit that funded programs for minorities. Walmart’s DEI changes were first reported by Bloomberg News. Among the changes, Walmart will no longer allow third-party sellers to sell some LGBTQ-themed items on Walmart’s website, including items marketed to transgender youth like chest binders, company spokeswoman Molly Blakeman said. It’s also moved away from using the term “diversity, equity and inclusion” or DEI in company documents, employee titles and employee resource groups. CNN —Researchers have discovered the residues of psychedelic drugs, bodily fluids and alcohol inside a 2,000-year-old mug, suggesting that ancient Egyptians imbibed hallucinogenic beverages during rituals. “Religion is one of the most fascinating and puzzling aspects of ancient civilizations,” Tanasi said in a statement. Researchers analyzed a 2,000-year-old Bes mug for chemical and DNA traces. Squirting cucumbers blast their seeds over distances hundreds of times their length, and now scientists know how the plants do it. A squirting cucumber in action is a remarkable sight, but if you blink, you might miss it — the eruption lasts about 0.03 second (30 milliseconds). Squirting cucumbers, also known by the scientific name Ecballium elaterium, are found across the Mediterranean and Europe, and in parts of northern Africa, Australia, Asia and North America. The seeds of a squirting cucumber can reach distances of about 33 feet away from the mother plant. But there’s also much to be learned by studying outliers that receive less attention, such as the squirting cucumber, Hay said.
