WNBA star Cameron Brink had to learn how to negotiate her worth sooner than most 22-year-olds. Despite suffering a torn ACL in June that sidelined her rookie season, Brink's momentum off the court hasn't slowed. "Building my confidence in negotiations has been a journey for me, but I remind myself that my skills and hard work are valuable," Brink told CNBC Make It in an email. The most important step she takes to prepare for any negotiation, Brink says, is to research the companies she negotiates with. By contrast, the highest-paid players in the NBA are earning more than $50 million a year — and that's before factoring in sponsorships.

A banana duct-taped to a white wall — or an acclaimed piece of art, depending how you look at it — sold at a Sotheby's auction for $6.24 million on Wednesday. The artwork debuted at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2019 and was initially estimated to sell around $1.5 million, according to Sotheby's. At one point, someone even took the banana off the wall and ate it. According to Sotheby's, Cattelan "single-handedly prompted the world to reconsider how we define art, and the value we seek in it." As Galperin put it, "There is no better forum to adjudicate the value of art and a single object than the platform of auction."

Denzel Washington is Hollywood royalty, but the two-time Academy Award winning actor can still recall what it was like to think that his acting career might slip away from him. In an interview with British Vogue while promoting "Gladiator II", Washington and costar Paul Mescal were asked when they felt like they had "made it" in their careers. Washington, however, was brought back to the contents of his pantry at the start of his career. "I remember keeping cans of food," he says. Norway's royal family found itself embroiled in an intensifying scandal Tuesday after the son of the country's crown princess was arrested on suspicion of rape. They add to the growing list of charges against the Oslo socialite, the eldest child of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a relationship prior to her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon. It was the police who brought the provisional rape charge, not the alleged victim, her lawyer Hege Salomon told Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten. And Borg Hoiby has pleaded not-guilty to separate charges related to two past relationships. According to police, when he was arrested Monday Borg Hoiby was in a car with the alleged victim from the August incident.

CNN —An American silver coin dating back to the 17th century, before the United States was founded, has sold for a record-breaking $2.52 million at auction, eight years after it was discovered in an old cabinet in Amsterdam. The threepence coin was struck in 1652 in Boston just weeks after the first mint in the then-British colony had opened, according to a statement released Monday by Stack’s Bowers Galleries, which handled the sale. This was a threepence coin, as shown by the Roman numerals on one side of it. A rare 1794 silver dollar believed to be one of the first – if not the first – made by the US mint sold for $10 million in 2013. Meanwhile, a rare 1933 “Double Eagle” coin, one of the last gold coins ever struck for circulation in the US, sold for $18.9 million in 2021.

While some athletes celebrate their first big paycheck with a splurge — NFL star Travis Kelce dropped $10,000 on a limited-edition pair of sneakers, Shaquille O'Neal spent $150,000 on a Mercedes Benz — WNBA star Cameron Brink hasn't touched hers. Brinks says she's saved about 90% of her total earnings from her first year in the league, adding that the WNBA isn't the principal driver of her income. "I want to ensure that I'm setting myself up for a comfortable lifestyle down the line because I definitely don't want to be working forever." Brink, who in college signed an endorsement deal with New Balance to become the brand's first female basketball player, had an NIL valuation topping $200,000 while at Stanford University, Sports Illustrated reports. In a league where player salaries are still as low as they are, such sponsorships can make all the difference.

Despite making films for over 40 years, Tim Burton’s visual style — a signature blend of light and dark — continues to defy neat description. Burton devoured everything from horror films to Ray Harryhausen animations, science fiction B movies and Japanese Kaiju monster films. Beyond Hollywood, Burton’s work has been inspiring the world of fashion for decades. The late Alexander McQueen’s Fall-Winter 2002 show, ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,’ featured a now-iconic Batman-esque parachute cape inspired by Burton’s work.
