CNN —President-elect Donald Trump has selected Russell Vought as his pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget, he said in a Truth Social post. Vought was one of the key authors of Project 2025 – the conservative blueprint that Trump tried to distance himself from during the campaign. He was Trump’s former budget director during his first administration when Vought oversaw a widespread deregulation push. During Trump’s first administration, Vought made a name for himself as a policy wonk committed to the MAGA movement. Before serving as Trump’s budget director, Vought was the deputy director and later acting director of OMB.

A homeless Florida man was arrested Wednesday and charged with plotting to bomb the New York Stock Exchange to force a "reboot" or "reset" of the U.S. government, according to a criminal complaint. Yener told agents at the time that he was creating “rockets” with very “volatile” chemical mixtures that would explode if they were mixed incorrectly, the complaint says. Undercover FBI agents later made contact with Yener and convinced him they wanted to help him carry out an attack, it says. “There is one place that would be hella easy...the stock exchange, that would be a great hit," Yener said, according to the complaint. So that’s perfect.”Days later, he told a group of undercover FBI agents that he wanted to bomb the stock exchange the week before Thanksgiving.

WASHINGTON — A Jan. 6 rioter who was the subject of right-wing conspiracy theories suggesting he was a plant who worked with law enforcement was sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday, among the longest prison sentences given in connection with the U.S. Capitol attack. In court Thursday, Alam said his fellow Jan. 6 inmates saw the segment in the jail in Washington when it aired on the local Sinclair station, WJLA. “They came to the conclusion that I was a confidential human source,” Alam said of his fellow Jan. 6 defendants. (President-elect Trump has called Capitol rioters “political prisoners” and “hostages” and said he would “absolutely” consider pardoning every one of them). While Trump may not want to associate with that plan, it was formulated by his allies – at least 140 people associated with Project 2025 worked in Trump’s administration, according to a review by CNN’s Steve Contorno. Trump’s adviser Stephen Miller said on Fox News to expect deportations to begin the moment Trump is again president on January 20, 2025. Commonly referred to as “Schedule F,” Trump’s plan was to undo long-standing protections for nonpartisan civil servants. John McEntee, who was director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office during Trump’s first administration, worked on Project 2025, building a list of Trump loyalists suitable for administration roles. A white supremacist is accused of trying to destroy an electricity substation in Tennessee in an attempt to bring down the regional power network and disrupt American society, authorities said Monday. The theory was popularized by manifestos left by perpetrators in a number of high-profile neo-Nazi and white supremacist terrorist incidents, including the killing of 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019. Philippi drove to an electricity substation, along with undercover FBI agents, to carry out reconnaissance, the bureau said. While driving, he ordered C-4 explosives from the undercover agents, and at a later date he bought black powder intended to be used in pipe bombs. Philippi was arrested on Nov. 2 by undercover agents acting as co-conspirators who had agreed to be lookouts.

Golden eagle feet recovered by law enforcement officers from a Washington state man's vehicle. He said illegal shootings were “absolutely wrong” but sympathized with tribal members who don’t want to wait years for eagle parts. Around his waist was a decorative piece strung with eagle feathers, and he carried a short wooden stick carved into a bald eagle head, a single feather hanging from it. Online posts from people selling eagle feathers illegally are relatively easy to find on internet marketplaces. Most dead eagles, parts and feathers received by tribal members come from the wildlife service’s National Eagle Repository.

The latest example came Wednesday, at a forum held by Univision, where Trump called Jan. 6 "a day of love." Trump has called into the nightly livestreamed vigil held in support of Jan. 6 defendants outside the Washington jail at least once. Trump's running mate, Yale-educated Sen. Trump's team had asked Chutkan to compel prosecutors in special counsel Jack Smith's office to provide them with additional evidence, including "all information" about foreign interference and influence efforts in the 2020 election. It's part of the Trump team's attempt to present Trump's concerns about mass voter fraud — which were roundly rejected by independent arbiters and courts — as "reasonable" and grounded in reality. Judge Tanya Chutkan pushed back on Trump's claims on Wednesday in an order that rejected all but three of his 14 categories of requests for additional evidence. Trump's state of mind is essential to the case, and Smith's team has alleged that Trump "knew" his election lies "were false." The Supreme Court gutted part of Smith's case over the summer with its ruling on presidential immunity, but the case against Trump is — very slowly — churning towards a potential trial.

An Afghan man arrested on charges of planning a terrorist attack on Election Day worked as a security guard in Afghanistan for the CIA, two sources with knowledge of the matter told NBC News. “Every Afghan resettled in the U.S. undergoes a rigorous screening and vetting process no matter which agency they worked with,” the official said. The CIA undertook its own large-scale evacuation operation of Afghans who had worked for or helped the agency. Officials say humanitarian parole generally entails far less screening than a Special Immigrant Visa. Authorities say he planned the operation along with a juvenile co-conspirator, described as an Afghan citizen with legal permanent resident status.

CNN —The Justice Department announced charges Tuesday against an Afghan national who was allegedly plotting a terrorist attack in support of ISIS on Election Day in the United States. The juvenile has also been arrested, according to court documents. The indictment comes as the Justice Department has publicly – and repeatedly – said its focus is on protecting the November presidential election from foreign threats. Tawhedi’s alleged plot, which prosecutors say was aimed at targeting “large gatherings of people,” was foiled less than a month before voters head to the polls. They also cited a video found on the phone that prosecutors say showed the 27-year-old telling his child about the rewards a martyr receives in the afterlife.

America's absurd war on 'organized retail crime'

Organized retail crime "is not shoplifting," the agency says on its website, "and these crimes are not victimless." AdvertisementOne homeless woman in jail who pleaded guilty to felony organized retail theft tells me she steals out of desperation. Gavin Newsom sent $267 million to cities across California to increase arrests of organized retail crime — and the crackdown has escalated dramatically. Even the guy who says he coined the term "organized retail crime" can't say how much is lost to it. Gavin Newsom has provided California cities with $267 million and signed 10 new bills into law to bolster the prosecution of organized retail crime.
