The University of Texas System announced Wednesday it will expand its free tuition program for lower-income families to include all families making $100,000 or less a year. The free tuition for undergraduate students will begin in the fall of 2025 and will cover tuition and fees. “The combination of these actions today will ensure that average student debt at UT academic institutions continues to decline. UT System Chancellor James B. Milliken said in a statement: “Across UT institutions, enrollment is growing, and student debt is declining, indicating success in both access and affordability. Further, families with an income below $100,000 will have tuition as well as housing, dining fees and allowances for books and personal expenses covered.

Dallas AP —Texas has sued a Dallas doctor over accusations of providing gender-affirming care to youths, marking one of the first times a state has sought to enforce recent bans driven by Republicans. The Texas law prevents transgender people under 18 from accessing hormone therapies, puberty blockers and transition surgeries, though surgical procedures are rarely performed on children. Children’s Health said in a statement that it “follows and adheres to all state health care laws.”At least 26 states have adopted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, and most of those states face lawsuits. The lawsuit comes just weeks before an election in which Republicans have used support of gender-affirming health care as a way to attack their opponents. Greg Abbott, who was the first governor to order the investigation of families of transgender minors who receive gender-affirming care.

Belly fat tends to get a bad rap, but new research shows that one kind of belly fat can be healthier than others — provided you’re willing to get moving. The fat, the study found, essentially behaved differently in people with the same percentage of body fat, based on their long-term exercise habits. Regular exercisers had less rigid or fibrous fat tissue, which allows fat cells beneath the skin to expand to store fat, one of the body’s primary sources of energy. While expanding fat cells may sound like a bad thing, it’s actually better for health than having inflexible fat tissue. Another indication of this was that they had more proteins involved with fat metabolism in their fat tissue, the study found.

But rather than shuttling money into strengthening its grid to make sure the lights and A/C stay on during increasingly extreme weather, Texas is pouring billions of taxpayer dollars into new natural gas-fired power plants. Adding more electricity to the grid isn’t necessarily a bad thing because the state is facing higher demand, said Texas energy expert Doug Lewin, founder of consulting firm Stoic Energy. Even a sharp sell-off in Salesforce stock Thursday — down as much as 21% intraday — isn't keeping some analysts on Wall Street from sticking with their optimistic outlooks on the maker of customer relationship management software. Salesforce executives tied the disappointing results to elongated deal cycles throughout the first quarter that hit the company's booking schedule. Weiss reiterated an overweight rating on Salesforce, albeit with a $320 per share price target, down from $350. Goldman Sachs analyst Kash Rangan reiterated a buy rating on Salesforce stock, but lowered his price target to $315 per share from $345.
