A key challenge for all of the Trump administration’s new public health leaders, the experts said, will be keeping politics out of science. CNN has reached out to Nesheiwat and Makary for comment and did not receive a response. Some said that could put them at odds with Kennedy, whom Trump has chosen for the nation’s top health post as HHS secretary. It doesn’t seem that he has much experience working in the field of public health,” said Castrucci, an epidemiologist who is president and CEO of the de Beaumont Foundation, a nonprofit focused on strengthening the US public health system. “Although lung cancer overall is decreasing because of declines in tobacco use, lung cancer among people who have never smoked has been rising significantly,” Wojcicki wrote in a YouTube blog that was posted Monday. Although it remains unclear what exactly is driving this rise in lung cancer among young women, Yu has some ideas. Last year, US representatives introduced the Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventative Services Act, which aims to commission more lung cancer research and would require the US Department of Health and Human Services to conduct an interagency review of the status of lung cancer in women, including identifying new opportunities for screening, diagnosis and treatment.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s proposed appointment to lead the US Department of Health and Human Services could have big consequences for a booming weight-loss market. Sanjay Gupta Reports: Is Ozempic Right For You?” at 8 p.m. Sunday, November 17, on CNN. Even as they agree that it’s important to address growing rates of diabetes and obesity, doctors in that field say Kennedy’s plans miss the mark. Doctors who treat people with obesity suggest that fixing the food system shouldn’t be mutually exclusive with using weight-loss medications, when appropriate. “But a lot of his thinking is like ‘A plus B plus C plus miracle, and you’ve got an answer.’”

Many women start experiencing menopausal symptoms during those years of perimenopause, such as irregular periods, fatigue, sleep disturbances, hot flashes and weight gain. For most women, periods don’t stop suddenly, although there are exceptions when menopause is induced by surgery or certain medical treatments that stop ovarian function. Perimenopause is the several years preceding menopause, so the most common age for women to begin perimenopause is in their 40s. CNN —A major Supreme Court ruling Friday that shifted power from the executive branch to the judiciary stands to transform how the federal government works. By overturning a 1984 precedent, the court’s conservative majority has made countless regulations vulnerable to legal challenge. The Supreme Court ruling could boost efforts by conservatives who have taken aim at the Biden Environmental Protection Agency’s rules limiting planet-warming pollution from vehicles, oil and gas wells and pipelines, and power plants. The ruling has injected legal uncertainty into regulations of all types, including those on technology, labor, the environment and health care. But the Supreme Court has yet to decide a case heard this term that might gut that limitation.

Nationwide, the average annual cost of care rose to $11,582 per child last year, up 3.7% from the prior year. Further exacerbating the shortage was the continued disappearance of licensed child care providers who operate out of their homes.
