Polling has consistently found that Biden is a drag on Harris' candidacy and that voters are eager for a new direction. But Harris has been reluctant to be critical of Biden by outright critiquing his presidency. Harris would seek to distance herself from Biden somewhat delicately, likely giving the White House a heads up before doing so, three of the people familiar with the discussions said. Just hours after her interview on “The View,” Harris faced the same type of question by Stephen Colbert, who asked what major changes would be clear in a potential Harris administration and what might stay the same. Harris delivered a similar answer during her debate with Trump last month, which Biden took particular note of, NBC News has reported.

And they are long-shot races, especially during a presidential election, when ticket-splitting isn’t as common as it used to be. In Florida and Texas, Democrats are focusing on state abortion bans to try to push beyond their recent losses in those states. Cruz’s campaign spent almost $5 million on ads in September and $4 million in the first 10 days of October. The spending disparity is less stark in Florida, where in September Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign spent $8.6 million and Scott’s campaign spent $2.1 million. In Maryland, the Senate race features a similar dynamic, with the race rated by Cook as “Likely Democrat,” even though Harris is expected to win there easily.

But the surveys also reveal a noticeable gap in support between the pro-abortion rights amendments and the Democratic presidential and Senate candidates who are campaigning on a pro-abortion rights platform. Pro-abortion rights ballot measures won in every state where they appeared on the ballot, including conservative-leaning ones, in the 2022 and 2023 elections. Similarly in Arizona, a proposed amendment to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution has clear majority support. In Montana, there’s little evidence that the presence of an abortion rights amendment has had a major effect on the race between three-term Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and Republican challenger Tim Sheehy. For example, in Missouri, public polling indicates broad support for a constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion rights, while Republican Sen. Josh Hawley and Trump hold strong leads in their races.

“I had never seen a letter like that before and had no idea what having dense breasts even meant,” said Mullen, 38, of Andover, Massachusetts. Dense tissue makes it harder to find breast cancer on a mammogram; and that dense breast tissue is a risk factor for cancer. The man killed was identified as Patrick Weier, who worked as a tour guide at the mine. Weier had a 7-year-old son and lived in Victor, a community of less than 400 in the area, officials said. Trump’s campaign also expects to draw huge, raucous crowds, and command outsized media attention – which would pay dividends across the political map. It’s the same reason Trump’s campaign has had the former president sit down with popular YouTube streamers and podcasters. Harris’ campaign has employed a similar strategy in recent weeks, targeting specific groups of voters with her appearances on podcasts and other interviews. Plus, "Meet the Press" moderator breaks down the polling numbers behind Barack Obama's stern message to Black voters. Former President Barack Obama came to Pittsburgh on Thursday with a stark warning for Black men to step up their support for Harris. The survey found that men under the age of 50 were the most likely subgroup of Black voters to back Trump over Harris. While Harris had a 78-point lead among Black men over 50, the number drops to about 50 points with Black men under 50. Bottom line: This is the first time we have heard this powerful and direct plea from the nation’s first Black president to other Black men.

The Trump campaign also cut a video interspersing Harris’ quote with news clips about the widely criticized withdrawal from Afghanistan and crime connected to migrants, as well as inflation. She said the legislation would have added 1,500 more border agents, "except Donald Trump got in the way of that bill." Harris took nearly a dozen questions from audience members at the town hall, which was moderated by journalist Enrique Acevedo, about issues from abortion to the cost of living.
