There are too many people and a limited water supply due to a decreasing number of lakes. I've never struggled with water supply in the past: I have access to a well, rainwater harvesting, and facilities to store water from the public supply. But this year, I noticed the public water supply was running out more frequently, so even I had to buy water a few times. The Tokyo government plans to introduce a four-day workweek for its employees in an attempt to support young families and boost record-low fertility rates nationwide. Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike announced that starting in April, employees of the metropolitan government will have the option to take three days off each week. However, the implementation of a four-day workweek may provide government employees with more time to dedicate to raising their families. In a 2022 series of global trials coordinated by 4 Day Week Global, a nonprofit organization, various companies took part in a four-day workweek pilot program. More than nine out of ten employees who participated in those trials wanted to continue with the four-day workweek.

“If the housing market were going to crash, it would have already crashed by now,” said Daryl Fairweather, chief economist at Redfin. “The housing market has been so resilient to interest rates going up as high as they have.”Here are five housing market predictions for 2025, according to Fairweather and other economists. If fewer homes are built in a supply-constrained market, prices might grow much higher, said Channel. More than 21 million renter households are “cost-burdened,” meaning they spent more than 30% of their income on housing costs, according to 2023 U.S. Census data. “Rent prices typically decline in the colder months of the year,” as fewer people are apartment hunting in the late fall and winter seasons.

Homicide rates are nearly four times as those in the United States, according to Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography. In the United States, you can apply at the Netherlands embassy in Washington or at the consulates-general in Miami, New York or San Francisco. In addition, as with Costa Rica, Panama also does not have a tax treaty with the United States. It’s also a long way away from the United States, which can be tricky for visits to see loved ones. Cons: As is the case in Mexico and other countries with large expat communities, there’s growing backlash against the influx of foreigners, especially Americans, and especially in Lisbon.

If fewer homes are built in a supply-constrained market, prices might grow much higher, said Channel. A stable rental market will also give renters more strength to negotiate with landlords. For instance: Austin, Texas was the "epicenter of multi-family construction," she said, meaning a lot of new supply was added into the city's rental market, bringing rental costs down. In contrast, supply-constrained metropolitan areas like Seattle, Washington, D.C., and New York City, are experiencing high rent growth of 5% annually. Mortgage rates declined this fall in anticipation of the first interest rate cut since March 2020.

THESSALONIKI, Greece AP —The metro system in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki opened Saturday featuring driverless trains, and tens of thousands of people braved blustery, rainy weather to wait outside the stations to try them out. The single 13-station subway line was jammed with passengers eager to get a taste of the city’s new transport system. This archaeological site is located inside the Venizelou metro station in Thessaloniki. Deep underground, remains of the city’s busiest street in the 6th century were found. But it will likely take several more years for the metro to reach the city’s busy Macedonia Airport.

An ancient bronze thought to be a likeness of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus is to be reunited with its long lost torso after a Danish museum agreed that its sculpture of a bearded man’s head had been looted and should be returned to Turkey. Since then, the Turkish government has been petitioning the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen, requesting the return of the 2,000-year-old head to complete the statue. The Danish museum said it had made its decision after prolonged research. “Exceptionally strong arguments and scientific documentation are required to separate a work from the museum’s collection,” Gertrud Hvidberg-Hansen, the museum’s director, said in a statement. “In the case of this object, both criteria were present.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is denied bail for a third time

CNN —Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in jail after a judge rejected his latest attempt for release while the rapper and music producer awaits trial on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. Judge Arun Subramanian denied Combs’ team’s motion for release on Wednesday. His decision followed a two-hour court hearing on Friday where he appeared to explore potential options and questioned prosecutors’ allegation that Combs continued to obstruct the ongoing investigation. Federal prosecutors argued that Combs could not be trusted on bail because he flouted the rules of the jail and judge. Prosecutors allege Combs tried to evade law enforcement monitoring by using several techniques, including three-way calling, to contact witnesses.

It was a chemical reaction that sparked the massive fire and toxic smoke plume at a lab in Georgia that threatened nearby communities and metropolitan Atlanta in September, according to the findings released by the U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB). The board released its findings Friday following an investigation into the Sept. 29 chemical fire at a BioLab plant in Conyers, Georgia. The safety board said the main substances involved were a collection of chemicals that are commonly used for cleaning and disinfecting: bromochloro-5,5-dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione (BCDMH), trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) and sodium dichloroisocyanurate (DCCA). “The resulting massive plumes of toxic smoke contained chlorine and other hazardous substances and caused significant offsite impacts,” the CSB said. The board will provide its findings and recommendations in its final investigation report.

New York City’s congestion pricing program has cleared its last bureaucratic hurdle, and most drivers could soon be paying $9 to enter the busiest parts of Manhattan. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs the city’s mass transit network and will oversee the pricing plan, has been granted permission by the Federal Highway Administration to proceed with the tolls as planned, according to M.T.A. Congestion pricing would charge most motorists $9 to enter Manhattan below 60th Street during peak hours, down from the previously approved rate of $15. Although it has received final government approval, congestion pricing could still be undone, even after its start date. President-elect Donald J. Trump has also threatened to stop congestion pricing as one of his first acts in office.

CNN —Five new lawsuits against Sean “Diddy” Combs have been filed by both male and female accusers who allege they were drugged and sexually assaulted by the embattled music mogul, who now faces more than 30 civil complaints. The majority of the new lawsuits allege that plaintiffs were sexually assaulted at parties hosted by Combs, with one incident allegedly taking place at the producer’s White Party in 2004. One accuser claims in his lawsuit that he was assaulted by Combs and his associates at a casting call for a music video. Attorneys for Combs denied the claims, but did not respond to specific allegations in the lawsuits. Last month, the lawyers said at a press conference that they were representing more than 100 plaintiffs with allegations against Combs.

This is the first time the window has come to auction in 24 years and the sale sets a new auction record for Tiffany Studios. It sold for $2 million back in 2000, which was a world record for a Tiffany window at that time. A federal judge on Tuesday ordered prosecutors to get rid of copies of 19 pages of notes taken from Sean "Diddy" Combs' jail cell after his lawyers argued the seizure violated attorney-client privilege. Judge Arun Subramanian ruled Tuesday that the court will keep the papers while prosecutors and Combs’ lawyers submit briefs on the issue over the next few weeks. The music mogul has denied both the charges as well as prosecutors' allegations that he’s tampering with witnesses from jail. At Tuesday's hearing Combs, 55, who wore olive prison clothing garb, appeared to have lost weight since his last court appearance.
