American men were eliminated in the quarterfinals, while the defending champion women had to scratch and claw their way to a bronze medal Monday night. The U.S.' Dearica Hamby drives against Canada's Kacie Bosch in the women's 3x3 basketball bronze medal game in Paris on Monday. That’s so cliché, but it’s so true.”The growing 3x3 version of the game has many key differences from traditional basketball, as perimeter scoring, quick shooting and short bursts of energy are essential. “I wish people understood how hard 3-on-3 is,” college basketball star Hailey Van Lith said after she scored a game-high 6 points in the bronze medal game. The 3x3 basketball development in far-flung places like Mongolia, Chile and Trinidad and Tobago might not be possible in the traditional, full-court game, Zagklis said.

Last fall the United Automobile Workers union won big pay increases from the Detroit automakers, and the impact rippled quickly through the nonunion auto plants scattered across the South. On production lines in Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and elsewhere, those pay increases have been referred to as the “U.A.W. bump.”Now 4,300 workers at Volkswagen’s plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., will test whether the union can achieve an even greater bump. On Wednesday, they begin voting on whether to join the U.A.W., and the prospects of a union victory appear high. About 70 percent of the workers pledged to vote yes before the union asked for a vote, according to the U.A.W.

Someone sent Republican lawmakers in Montana letters containing an unknown white powder. Republican officials in Tennessee and Kansas also received similar letters over the last week. Several Tennessee Republicans got similar letters the day before, according to the Tennessee Star. And on June 18, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation reported that more than 100 Republican lawmakers and officials from across Kansas received similar letters, which also included the suspicious powder. The letters contained cryptic messages and details designed to get recipients to open them, lawmakers told CNN.

Andy Ogles once raised more than $23,000 to create a burial garden for stillborn babies. The Republican lawmaker says he didn't raise enough to build the garden, so he donated it to families in need, but didn't offer proof. Ogles embellished details of his resume before he was elected, Insider reported. But, the garden was never built and Ogles — now a freshman GOP congressman — hasn't offered proof of where the money went, according to multiple reports. The fundraiser said the burial garden would feature benches, flowers, and a "life-size statue of Jesus watching over the children."
Freshman Rep. Andy Ogles claimed he had a degree in "policy and economics" while campaiging. Ogles, a freshman representative from Tennessee, originally claimed on the campaign trail that he had a degree in international policy and economics, according to Nashville's NewsChannel5. But while it's true Ogles studied at Middle Tennessee State University, he did not major in international policy nor economics. An Insider interview with Laffer, however, revealed that Ogles' role working with Laffer primarily didn't involve economics — instead, Laffer claimed Ogles mainly worked in fundraising, though he didn't question Ogles' claim of being an economist. "An economist is a person who works in economics," Laffer told Insider.
