The nature of illegal lockouts means they are hard to track directly. One of the responding officers calls a sergeant over, who says there's nothing else they can do. While only 14% of lockout calls led to a police report, 86% of calls about shoplifting did. As they walk over, one of the officers tells the other to look up "illegal lockout" on his phone. The launch of Jain Global has dominated industry gossip since its founder left Millennium Management, where the 53-year-old Jain was Izzy Englander's right-hand man, in late 2022. And more specifically, scalability without incremental cost," Jonathan Barton, the firm's chief operating officer, said in an interview with BI. Starting from a clean sheet of paper gave Jain Global certain advantages, said one senior banker who worked closely with the new manager as it built out its teams and systems. 3Forge, a specialty-software provider, worked with Jain Global to build the interface that connects all the systems for PMs, the risk team, and management. In five to 10 years, Jain Global hopes it won't need a sprawling business-development function because a strong talent pipeline will have developed inside the firm.

"I think it may be leading to some rethink into the consideration of letting private equity, as an example, or institutional investors into the NFL." While U.S. pro sports leagues had prohibited private equity investors previously, they've largely softened their stances in recent years, aside from letting any firm be a controlling owner of a team. A growing number of Democratic lawmakers called for Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. to recuse himself from cases related to Jan. 6, 2021, and demanded new ethics rules for the Supreme Court after revelations that flags carried by rioters at the Capitol were flown outside his homes. With the Supreme Court just weeks away from issuing decisions on two major cases concerning former President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the events of Jan. 6, lawmakers said the symbolism of the flags called into question Justice Alito’s neutrality. In an interview on Thursday, Representative Steve Cohen, a Democrat from Tennessee who has introduced a resolution to censure Justice Alito, said Congress needed to take the firm position that the justice’s actions were a violation of judicial propriety. “He’s not going to resign, he’s not going to recuse himself, and I don’t think Justice Roberts is going to be able to influence him in that regard,” he said, referring to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. “So the best we can do is to kind of put a scarlet letter on him.”
