What was supposed to be a simple birthday treat devolved into the latest flashpoint after “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg implied that a New York bakery refused to take her order because of her liberal politics. But the distinctive polka-dotted packaging on the cakes left local viewers little doubt about which business she was talking about: Holtermann’s Bakery in Staten Island. Goldberg and Holtermann’s Bakery did not immediately respond to NBC News’ requests for comment. But Holtermann, who joined Fossella at Friday’s news conference, said that the bakery has received “overwhelming” support in the wake of the incident. Many people feel “that they’re not getting enough back, that a college education isn’t worth enough,” said Paul Peterson, a professor of education policy and governance at Harvard University. The data says that college education is worth more than ever.”The dissonance shows how higher education has become another slice of the economy where the vibes are worse than the numbers might suggest — and risks exacerbating Democratic losses with working-class voters. The sale of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ media empire is a major blow to one of the defining independent media brands that ushered in a new era of fringe thinking, mainstreaming conspiracy theories once banished to the edges of the internet. And while Jones’ Infowars brand is now owned by the satirical news site The Onion, media researchers and conservative media experts say its legacy will live on thanks to the far-right media ecosystem it helped inspire, which continues to flourish. YouTube and other social media platforms began removing Jones’ videos in 2018 as they were flagged for violating content rules related to violent and graphic content. “What is going to happen with Infowars ‘Onion-ified,’ and what is going to happen to the kinds of internet conspiracy theorists who Alex Jones represents?” Phillips asked. “Alex Jones is not.”

Giuliani also told his bank to turn over at least $30,000 in a bank account, according to a Friday court filing. If Giuliani didn’t give up the full list of items ordered by a judge last month, he could be held in contempt of court. Giuliani has indicated in court proceedings one watch is from his grandfather and two others were gifts from European leaders after the September 11, 2001, attacks. The pair are also still fighting in court to try to win his $3.5 million Palm Beach, Florida, condo and four Yankees World Series rings from the 1990s and 2000. Giuliani is still arguing he should be able to keep living in the Palm Beach condo and Manhattan apartment, and that he gave the World Series rings to his son years ago.

Absolute iron deficiency can be treated with iron supplements, and functional iron deficiency is managed by treating the underlying conditions leading to it, Buckley said, adding that the long-term consequences of functional iron deficiency remain under investigation. Absolute iron deficiency was also common among older women and men, a group that may be more susceptible to the effects of iron deficiency,” he said. Even among adults without conditions that may be associated with iron deficiency – anemia, heart failure, chronic kidney disease or pregnancy – the estimated prevalence of absolute iron deficiency was 11% and that of functional iron deficiency was 15%. Only about 33% of the adults with absolute iron deficiency and 14% of adults with functional iron deficiency had a potential medical reason to screen for iron deficiency, such as anemia, heart failure, chronic kidney disease or pregnancy. However, we know that iron deficiency can cause symptoms before a patient becomes anemic, as anemia is a late-stage manifestation of iron deficiency,” he said.

Murdoch is one of the most powerful and influential media titans of the modern age. The palace intrigue inside the Murdoch family has often lent itself to breathless public fascination, inspiring the HBO series “Succession” and behind-the-scenes books. The family is divided partly by differences in political opinion — and how those beliefs could shape the future of its sprawling media empire. A group of Amazon delivery drivers hold a labor strike at the DAX7 Amazon Sortation Center in South Gate. Amazon should be considered a "joint employer" of some of its contracted delivery drivers, a regional director for the National Labor Relations Board said Wednesday. Amazon has fought to avoid being designated as a joint employer of its sprawling network of contracted delivery companies. Over the past year, the Teamsters has stepped up its efforts to organize Amazon delivery and warehouse workers. Since then, it's led a number of strikes at Amazon delivery facilities, while a labor group at an Amazon warehouse on New York's Staten Island opted to affiliate with the Teamsters in June.

A dissident group has won control of the Amazon Labor Union, the only union in the country that formally represents Amazon warehouse workers, election results on Tuesday showed. The union won a representation vote at a Staten Island warehouse in 2022 but has yet to negotiate a contract as Amazon contests the outcome. A leader of the dissident group, Connor Spence, will take over, succeeding the founding president, Christian Smalls, who chose not to run for re-election. The result was announced by Mr. Spence’s group and confirmed by Mr. Smalls. Mr. Spence’s group brought a lawsuit last year to force leadership elections within the union.
