CNN —Friends and relatives gathered Monday to mourn the death of Yuval Castleman, the Israeli civilian who responded to a deadly terror attack in Jerusalem, shooting and killing the perpetrators before he himself was shot dead by an Israeli reservist soldier. Castleman, a former police officer, was driving to work Thursday when he saw two gunmen open fire at a bus stop in Jerusalem. A third person, an army reservist according to Israel’s military, appears to have mistaken Castleman for an attacker and began shooting at him. Bullets from one of the Israeli soldiers may have also struck Castleman, the IDF said. He was shouting ‘I’m an Israeli.’ He threw his wallet, his identification, on the way so they could see he’s an Israeli.

Two Palestinian gunmen opened fire near a bus stop on the outskirts of Jerusalem on Thursday morning, killing at least three people, according to the Israeli authorities. The Israeli police said in a statement that the gunmen, who were armed with an M16 rifle and a handgun, were killed at the scene by two off-duty soldiers and an armed civilian. At least six people were wounded in the attack, according to Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency service. The Shaare Zedek Medical Center said it was treating four victims, three of whom were still in serious condition. Hamas did not immediately comment on the shooting, which came as a fragile truce between it and Israel was extended in Gaza.

Seven people were also injured after the two attackers, identified by Hamas as two brothers, opened fire on a group of people in Jerusalem, authorities said. Jerusalem CNN —An Israeli man was seriously wounded and two girls were hurt in a shooting in the West Bank, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli emergency services said Sunday. The shooting took place in the Israeli-occupied southern West Bank, which is normally calmer than the north. Palestinian sources said Israeli troops were searching every car as they looked for the suspects, creating a traffic jam lasting at least two hours on a day when Israel and the West Bank are suffering a heatwave. Most of the recent violence in the West Bank has taken place in the region’s north, especially in Jenin and Nablus. CNN —Two men have been wounded in what Israeli police say was a suspected “terror attack” that took place near the Shimon Hatzadik tomb in East Jerusalem early Tuesday local time. The Shimon Hatzadik tomb is a revered holy site in Judaism located in the largely Palestinian neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem. In a follow-up statement, police said forces located a “Carlo” style submachine gun near the site of the shooting. Israeli security forces search for suspects following a shooting attack in Sheikh Jarrah on Tuesday. Israel captured it from Jordan in a 1967 war and considers both East and West Jerusalem as its united, “eternal capital.”
