On Sunday, almost immediately after prominent Democrats started endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president, attacks from the political right started pouring in. There were five others: George Washington, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, James Polk and James Buchanan. But more to the point, if you think that the concerns of parents and families will always be “abstract” to someone who doesn’t have children, you’re telling on yourself. It’s not simply that, by all accounts, Harris has a close, loving relationship with her stepkids. It should go without saying, but: Having children doesn’t necessarily make you a better person.

But the mercurial billionaire was once a skeptic — and very vocal about why he thought Trump shouldn't govern the US. Back in July 2022, Musk criticized Trump after the former president called him a "bullshit artist" during a rally in Alaska. Musk later said in a follow-up post the same day that having Trump as president would result in "too much drama." Musk would go on to host DeSantis' campaign launch on X in May 2023, which was riddled with technical glitches and delays. The pair got closer this year, eventually culminating in a full-throated endorsement of Trump from Musk after Trump survived a failed assassination attempt on July 13.

Either way, the Republican Party’s nominating convention was an impressive show of force by its undisputed leader, Donald Trump, who has vanquished all comers to rally his party around the MAGA flag. Heading into the primary elections, plenty of Republicans were desperately casting about for a Trump alternative, and plenty of challengers were auditioning for the position. But on Tuesday, Mr. Murdoch, the recently retired global media titan, was in Milwaukee to take his place among the rank-and-file Republican faithful. And with that, he became one of the most prominent one-time Trump detractors to line up behind the former president and join a convention that has doubled as a resounding show of Republican unity. Mr. Murdoch, 93, has not been a regular at conventions. Also on the schedule: Trump's former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, who challenged Trump in the 2024 GOP primary and did not immediately endorse him when she ended her presidential campaign. Haley said in an exit speech that Trump would have to "earn the votes" of Republicans who did not back him. Rudy Giuliani speaks to members of the media where Florida Gov. A New York federal bankruptcy judge on Friday in a scathing ruling dismissed the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection case of Rudy Giuliani, immediately exposing the newly disbarred former Trump lawyer to his creditors seeking repayments of his massive debts in other court venues. Those creditors include two Georgia election workers, to whom Giuliani owes $148 million in civil damages for defamation from a federal district court jury award in December. Freeman and Moss, unlike many other Giuliani creditors, supported the idea of dismissing the bankruptcy case in the Southern District of New York, which he filed days after losing the defamation judgment.
