China is installing wind and solar power projects faster than any other country on the planet. It’s not that China is using less energy — it’s using more than ever — but it’s just adding wind and solar power to its grid at an astonishing pace. That is in addition to the 758 gigawatts of wind and solar capacity it has already built, according to the Global Energy Monitor. Wind and solar are now capable of generating 37% of the country’s power, according to Global Energy Monitor, already displacing coal’s dominance.

SHANGHAI — ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming is China’s richest person, with personal wealth of $49.3 billion, an annual rich list showed Tuesday, although counterparts in real estate and renewables have fared less well. The U.K.'s Labour Party is set to unveil its national budget for the first time in 14 years later on Wednesday. Investment bank analysts have highlighted several stocks that could win or lose ground if the rumored measures are unveiled or curtailed. The Wall Street bank's analysts added that "U.K. long-dated yields might decline with easing budget uncertainty and continued inflation relief". Such a move may entice existing investors to sell the stocks, if the tax policy change likely impacts them.

The outcome of this year's presidential election could bode well for different parts of the stock market, according to Evercore ISI. "Trump will be positive for US-only retailers (which have higher tax rates vs retailers with int'l exposure)," Evercore ISI said. Under a Harris win, these stocks could benefit, per Evercore ISI: Evercore ISI forecasts Harris winners to be renewable energy and EV companies, as that administration is expected to maintain the Inflation Reduction Act and other clean energy policies. Discount retailers such as Burlington and Ross Stores are another likely beneficiary of a Democratic win, according to Evercore ISI. Following that result, parties have 30 days to try to form a coalition government and pick a prime minister. It's still unclear what the exact makeup of a coalition government could look like, clouding the outlook for both economic policy and Ishiba's fate. CNN —Polls opened Sunday in Japan’s general election, in a test for new Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba as he seeks voter support for his scandal-hit party just weeks after taking the role. By calling an election, Ishiba, 67, is seeking a public mandate for the ruling LDP amid falling approval ratings and public anger over one of the country’s biggest political scandals in decades. Former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida tried to contain the damage by replacing several cabinet ministers and dissolving LDP factions, essentially coalitions within the party. Ishiba has called for a more balanced relationship, including having greater oversight of US military bases in Japan, Reuters reports. As defense minister, Ishiba was strong on deterrence as a security issue.
