The ex-girlfriend of former Marvel actor Jonathan Majors has dropped a lawsuit that accused him of assault and defamation, according to court records filed in New York Thursday. The emerging star, who appeared in boxing drama "Creed III," was convicted in December 2023 on two counts of misdemeanor assault against Grace Jabbari, who said Majors attacker her in the back of an SUV. Majors played supervillain Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel movie franchise and was due to reprise the role in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” slated for 2026. Attorneys for both Jabbari and Majors did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Majors was given the Perseverance Award at the annual Impact Awards in Hollywood in June.

Majors’ attorney filed a motion in February asking Judge Michael Gaffey to set aside the verdict and acquit him of the charges. In a subsequent filing, prosecutors urged the judge to deny Majors’ motion.

AdvertisementJonathan Majors' 41-page motion to void his December domestic violence conviction was made public Wednesday, and it cites judicial error and insufficiency of evidence as grounds. A Manhattan jury convicted Majors on December 18 of misdemeanor reckless assault charge and a lower-level charge of harassment. "And for that reason, the reckless assault charge should never have been presented to the jury at all." "The people bookended the trial with loud accusations of a deliberate pattern of intentional bad conduct by Mr. Majors," Chaudhry wrote. Prosecutors painted Majors as a controlling partner, who once threatened suicide to manipulate. Defense said Jabbari threatened suicide, and the allegations were the result of being scorned. An actor who was on the precipice of superstardom when Manhattan prosecutors accused him of assaulting his then-girlfriend is set to go on trial Wednesday, seeking to keep his career alive in an unusual proceeding that is expected to attract national attention. The actor, Jonathan Majors, was charged in March with misdemeanor assault and harassment. Prosecutors say he attacked the woman, Grace Jabbari, during a car ride to his home, slapping her face, grabbing her hand violently and, after she got out the vehicle, throwing her back into it. While it is unusual for a misdemeanor assault charge to go to trial — the vast majority of defendants plead guilty to avoid risking a harsher sentence — Mr. Majors is fighting to prove his innocence and to salvage his reputation in Hollywood. His lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, has been aggressive in defending him, calling Ms. Jabbari a liar who attacked Mr. Majors.

New York (AP) — Manhattan prosecutors on Thursday dropped all charges against a woman who accused the movie star Jonathan Majors of assault, less than a day after she was arrested by New York City police following his allegation that she initiated the physical confrontation. She and Majors, her ex-boyfriend, have accused each other of battery during an argument in a car ride earlier this year. “The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has officially declined to prosecute the case against Grace Jabbari because it lacks prosecutorial merit. Majors, a fast-rising Hollywood star, still faces criminal charges that led to his arrest last March. The memo also outlines the cooperation between NYPD detectives and Majors’ attorney.

And, for once, the success of a Marvel film could bode well for the future of its longtime adversary. On the theatrical side, DC Studios has announced five new projects that will roll out starting in 2025 with Gunn's own "Superman: Legacy." "And I think Marvel Studios, sooner rather than later, needs to tell us what's going on with Spider-Man." He sees this as the result of predictable plotlines within the genre that are repeated across both studios' films. Marvel Studios
As someone who has spent her career writing about and reporting on women’s rights, including domestic violence, I see them as the exact opposite of exonerating. All acts of intimate partner violence are equally wrong, but they are not equally predictive of greater violence. As long as it’s an institution that emphasizes hypermasculinity and doesn’t fully accept women, it will be an institution where domestic violence remains a problem. And finally, we know that domestic violence victims often blame themselves. And these same sexist stereotypes infuse media coverage and public conversations about partner violence.

NEW YORK, March 26 (Reuters) - The actor Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York City over the weekend on assault and harassment charges, leading to the U.S. Army pulling new advertisements featuring the "Creed III" star. A 30-year-old woman suffered minor injuries to her head and neck and was taken to a hospital in stable condition, the New York Police Department said. Majors, 33, appeared in court for an arraignment later on Saturday and was released without bail. Priya Chaudhry, Majors' defense lawyer, said in a statement that Majors was innocent and that he was "provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows." She said that the episode occurred in a vehicle, and that the driver who witnessed it would help exonerate Majors.

CNN —A jury found filmmaker Paul Haggis liable in a sexual assault case that was brought forward by a former publicist who alleged he raped her after a movie premiere in 2013. Attorney Ilann Maazel, who represents Breest, told CNN by phone, “We’re grateful. “They used this to distort the truth, assassinate Mr. Haggis’ character, paint him as a monster, and use a ‘where there’s smoke, there’s fire’ strategy. Breest told him she was willing to go to a public bar, but stated she did not want to go to his apartment. Maazel told CNN that the punitive damage trial will likely continue Monday where he expects Haggis to take the stand.
The jury also decided that additional punitive damages should be awarded, but the amount is to be decided later. Haggis, 69, said the publicist was flirtatious and, while sometimes seeming “conflicted,” initiated kisses and oral sex in an entirely consensual interaction. Jurors sided with Breest, who said she suffered psychological and professional consequences from her encounter with Haggis. Four other women also testified that they experienced forceful, unwelcome passes — and in one case, rape — by Haggis in separate encounters going back to 1996. No witnesses said they knew that Haggis’ accusers or Breest’s lawyers had Scientology ties, and his lawyers acknowledged that Breest herself does not.
LOS ANGELES — One Hollywood star claimed he was arrested and charged on multiple counts of rape by police and prosecutors who are biased against his church. Another prominent Hollywood figure charged with rape contends he was set up by members of a church he has publicly renounced. In both cases, the church in question is the Church of Scientology. Haggis denied Breest’s rape allegation in a counter-complaint and accused her and her lawyer of trying to extort $9 million from him. “She decided she had to do something.”In the Masterson case, he and his accusers are all current or former members of the Church of Scientology.
Oscar-winning director Paul Haggis was arrested in Italy on Sunday on charges of sexual assault and aggravated personal injury, police said. Priya Chaudhry, an attorney for Haggis, said the Canadian filmmaker was "totally innocent" and was willing to cooperate with authorities. He is totally innocent, and willing to fully cooperate with the authorities so the truth comes out quickly." The woman who accused Haggis will also be questioned ahead of the trial, Negro said. Haggis denied the original allegation and sued the publicist, Haleigh Breest, accusing her of trying to bankrupt him.
