I said, if I get killed, go kill BBM (Marcos), (first lady) Liza Araneta, and (Speaker) Martin Romualdez. Speaker Romualdez, a cousin of Marcos, has slashed the vice presidential office’s budget by nearly two-thirds. The two families are at odds over foreign policy and former President Rodrigo Duterte’s deadly war on drugs, among others. In the Philippines, the vice president is elected separately from the president and has no official duties. Many vice presidents have pursued social development activities, while some have been appointed to cabinet posts.

New York CNN —Trump Media & Technology Group is losing money, generating very little revenue and its main product Truth Social remains a relatively small player in social media. And yet Wall Street is valuing former President Donald Trump’s social media company at nearly $8 billion, a price tag that has tripled in the span of just five weeks. Since plunging to record lows on September 23, Trump Media’s share price has skyrocketed. Trump Media’s share price saw a sharp decline in July after President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid. “If this were called Joe’s Media Company, we wouldn’t even be talking about it and it wouldn’t have a value anywhere close to this.

And on Thursday, Harris delivered an unscheduled speech focused on former Trump chief of staff John Kelly confirming Trump praised Adolf Hitler’s generals. The Harris campaign argues that the plan will tip some final undecided voters — a chunk of which are disaffected Republicans or independents. The Harris campaign says it is also focused on understanding what messaging could impact the small number of undecided voters that remain in key battleground states. “The two most motivating messages for Democratic turnout are those around abortion and democracy.”Some Harris campaign officials echoed that argument. Still, some Democrats who have worked with Harris worry there is too much focus on Trump and not on Harris’ unique skills and vision.

A level playing field produces better products and services," Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Romeo Lumagui said in a statement. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr signed into law on Wednesday the imposition of VAT on non-resident digital service providers such as streaming services and online search engines. The Philippines will impose a 12% value-added tax on digital services offered by tech giants such as Amazon , Netflix , Disney , and Alphabet , in a move that will level the playing field with domestic brick and mortar players, the internal revenue agency said on Thursday. Only domestic digital service providers are now subject to paying the 12% VAT, the agency said. Digital services provided by foreign firms are considered rendered in the Philippines if the digital services are consumed in the Southeast Asian nation, the revenue agency said.

The Philippine military condemned “dangerous and provocative actions” when two Chinese aircraft dropped flares in the path of a Philippine aircraft during a routine patrol around the shoal on Thursday. The Chinese military’s Southern Theater Command countered that the Philippines had disrupted its training, accusing Manila of “illegally intruding” into its airspace. On Sunday, Marcos urged China to act responsibly both in the seas and in the skies. Beijing claims almost all of the South China Sea, a conduit for more than $3 trillion of annual shipborne commerce, including parts claimed by the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. China rejects a 2016 ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague that Beijing’s expansive claims had no basis under international law.

Turkey’s communications authority blocked access to the social media platform Instagram on Friday, the latest instance of a clampdown on websites in the country. The Information and Communication Technologies Authority, which regulates the internet, announced the block early Friday but did not provide a reason. Sabah newspaper, which is close to the government, said access was blocked in response to Instagram removing posts by Turkish users that expressed condolences over the killling of Hamas' political leader Ismail Haniyeh. Unlike its Western allies, Turkey does not consider Hamas to be a terror organization. Turkey has a track record of censoring social media and websites.

Harris’ campaign rallies are a clear change from those held by President Joe Biden, the man she is replacing at the top of the Democratic ticket. So hear me when I say: I know Donald Trump’s type.”But the Trump campaign is rushing to define Harris differently. “She knows this is going to be a very close race,” Julie Chávez Rodríguez, Harris’ campaign manager, said in an interview. Chávez Rodríguez and Harris have been close for nearly a decade, since Chávez Rodríguez first took a job as state director for Harris’ Senate office in 2016. The Harris campaign has launched a website advertising more than five dozen jobs.

Turkey blocked access to Instagram for its 85 million people, the country's Information and Communication Technologies Authority announced Friday morning. According to Turkish media, there are more than 50 million users of the photo-sharing app in the country. Reports however suggest the ban was a response to the Meta -owned platform removing posts related to the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Iranian officials and Hamas blame Israel for what they say is an assassination, while Israel has declined to comment. Fahrettin Altun, head of Turkey's presidential communications and an aide to Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan, on Wednesday criticized Instagram, accusing it of censorship.

New York CNN —Former President Donald Trump’s social media fortune is shrinking. The value of Trump’s stake in the corporate owner of Truth Social has dropped by $800 million since Vice President Kamala Harris entered the race for the White House on July 21. At the same time, Trump’s Truth Social struggles to gain traction in the social media world. Trump Media’s share price has experienced extreme turbulence since going public in late March. That’s despite the fact that JetBlue generated 2,300 times more revenue last year than Trump Media’s paltry $4.1 million.

At current prices, Trump’s 114.75 million shares in Trump Media are worth about $5.6 billion. Trading under the ticker symbol “DJT,” Trump Media has achieved a massive valuation despite making little revenue and Truth Social remaining a tiny player in social media. For months, Trump Media has been a way for investors to bet on Trump returning to the White House, making Truth Social the primary platform for presidential communications. Trump Media recently announced it has been added to the Russell 1000 Index of large-cap stocks and the Russell 3000 Index. As a result, countless retail investors now own a piece of Trump Media through mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

CNN —Former President Donald Trump’s social media company is getting a boost after President Joe Biden’s shaky debate performance. Shares of Truth Social owner Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT) rose 4% in early trading Friday as investors bet the debate has boosted Trump’s chances of retaking the White House. Trump is the chairman of Trump Media, and he is the leading shareholder. Trump Media doesn’t really trade on the fundamentals of the underlying company, the stock has ebbed and flowed with the news about Donald Trump, including his criminal conviction and Thursday night’s debate performance. Trump Media is valued at more than $6 billion even though the company makes very little revenue and Truth Social is tiny.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has submitted a protocol for Sweden's admission into NATO to Turkey's parliament for ratification, his office said Monday. Erdogan had been delaying ratification of Sweden's membership, accusing Stockholm of being too soft on Kurdish militants and other groups he considers to be security threats. All 31 NATO allies must endorse Sweden's membership. It was not immediately known when Sweden's membership would come to the floor. Earlier this month, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urged Turkey to quickly ratify Sweden's membership in the military organization.

Palestinian officials said the blast at Al-Ahli al-Arabi hospital was caused by an Israeli air strike. Israel blamed the blast on a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, which denied responsibility. President Tayyip Erdogan called the blast "the latest example of Israeli attacks devoid of the most basic human values". Following the NSC's appeal, Israeli airlines said they were arranging flights from Istanbul on Wednesday for Israelis who want to leave Turkey. Political analysts said the Gaza hospital blast could have dire consequences for ties between Israel and Turkey.

MANILA (Reuters) - President Ferdinand Marcos has suffered a "significant" drop in his approval rating as soaring consumer prices in the Philippines undermines his support, a polling organisation said on Monday. "Continuing increase in prices of basic commodities and services and unfulfilled promise of reducing these," likely caused the "significant" drop in the approval ratings, said Ronald Holmes, president of Pulse Asia. Marcos' presidential communications office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Last month, Marcos imposed price ceilings for rice. Vice President Sara Duterte, daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte, also suffered a decline in approval ratings, dropping 11 points to 73%.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House Situation Room — a space of great mystique and even greater secrecy — just got a $50 million facelift. Behind that is the main conference room, known as the “JFK room." A room once taken up by computer servers has become a smaller conference room. That took place around the corner from the JFK room in a smaller conference room that no longer exists. While the area was closed for renovation, White House officials used other secure spots on the campus.

Vladimir Putin rides in a train because planes can be tracked, said an FSO officer who defected. The train is indistinguishable from other Russian trains "for stealth purposes," the officer said. His account aligns with previous reports that Putin secretly travels in trains to avoid being tracked. "Same as all the other Russian Railways trains — grey with a red stripe," he said. Karakulov said his team started equipping the train for Putin's operations in 2014 or 2015, per the Dossier Center.
Vladimir Putin has still been isolating himself and making staff quarantine, an ex-FSO officer says. The former FSO officer said Putin only allowed staff members to work in the same room as him after a two-week quarantine period, per the Dossier Center. "There is a pool of employees who have been cleared, who underwent this two-week quarantine," Karakulov said. He added that when he left, Putin's staff were already becoming confused by the president's insistence on keeping to old pandemic restrictions. "I have no idea why; he's probably just worried about his health," Karakulov also said.
Vladimir Putin lives in an "information vacuum," a Russian defector who accompanied him on trips said. Gleb Karakulov told the Dossier Center that Putin doesn't use a cellphone or the internet. Putin instead gathers information from secret service reports and Russian TV news channels, he said. "He only receives information from his closest circle, which means that he lives in an information vacuum." Putin generally gathers information from secret service intelligence reports, as well as Russian TV news channels, according to Karakulov.
Former Vice President Mike Pence speaks during an event to promote his new book at the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank on October 19, 2022 in Washington, DC. Trump previously sought to exercise executive privilege — which allows certain presidential communications to be kept confidential — over grand jury testimony in the probe, news outlets have reported. Howell on Thursday rejected an effort by media outlets to access records related to the grand jury investigation. "No vice president in American history has ever been compelled to testify against a president with whom they serve," Pence said. After Pence refused, a violent mob of Trump's supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, sending the vice president and congressional lawmakers into hiding.
MANILA, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos has approved a value-added tax refund programme for foreign tourists by 2024 to attract more visitors, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said on Sunday. The plan is to allow foreigners to get a VAT refund on items they are taking out of the Philippines, similar to what many other countries offer. The Philippines recorded 2.65 million international visitors last year, who brought in an estimated $3.68 billion in revenue, exceeding its 2022 target of 1.7 million tourists, according to the Department of Tourism. Last year's total comprised of 2.02 million foreign nationals and 628,445 Filipinos based abroad, which compared with only 163,879 tourists recorded in 2021 and was still significantly lower than the pre-pandemic annual level of 8.26 million. The government aims to boost visitor arrivals this year to 4.8 million tourists.
The claim has been his chief argument in defense of accusations he mishandled the information and imperiled US national security. In a court appearance Tuesday, special master Raymond Dearie, the official assigned to review the documents, pushed Trump's lawyers to provide evidence for the declassification claim. But Trump's lawyers didn't, arguing that making the evidence public could damage their defense if the case came to trial. "As far as I'm concerned, that's the end of it," Dearie said, indicating that he was losing patience with the declassification claim. In a ruling Wednesday, an Atlanta appeals court reinstated the DOJ's access to the classified information, and dismissed the declassification argument as a "red herring" that did not exculpate Trump even if true.
