But now it appears that some luxury brands have forgotten that aim. Dukas/Getty ImagesRay of Buttermilk said that some luxury brands have been hesitant to explore collaborations as a means of engaging Gen Z consumers because they fear losing their luxury allure. The future is vintageLuxury players might be kicking themselves for alienating Gen Z consumers, but Gen Zers never forgot about luxury. But secondhand's success isn't bad news for primary luxury brands, Escribano said. Bar certain luxury products like Hermès Birkins handbags, secondhand luxury is by and large cheaper and retains a level of exclusivity, she said.

Anne Hathaway was almost crashed into by New York Knicks player OG Anunoby at Wednesday's NBA matchup at Madison Square Garden, but rather than being near-death experience for the movie star, she called it a "bucket-list moment." The Oscar-winning actor and her son Jack were attending the New York Knicks vs. Chicago Bulls game when the British player charged in their direction while chasing the ball, colliding with a courtside barrier right next to the pair. To Hathaway's credit, she barely flinched, and was even photographed with an outstretched hand, seemingly attempting to catch the ball herself. Even though some snacks were spilled and her son's jaw dropped in shock, she ended her video smiling and thanking Anunoby. The Knick's lost out by a point, with the final score of the night being 124-123 for the Bulls.

Luxury sales in Japan surged due to a weakened yen and increased tourist spending. Brands like Hermès are thriving there by aligning with Japanese values of subtlety and quality. Rasmus Jurkatam/Getty ImagesBut in Q3, both LVMH and Kering reported a slowdown in luxury spending in Japan. Still, while the tourist spending may have faded somewhat, experts say Japanese consumers are emerging from a frugal era and spending on luxury themselves. But the Japanese aren't just splashing their cash anywhere — a bitter pill for some luxury brands to swallow.

This was largely due to the success of its sister brand, Miu Miu. AdvertisementPrada Group is defying the luxury slowdown thanks to its Miu Miu brand. Counterfeiting has ballooned into a massive problem for Crye, costing it millions of dollars a year, said Jonathan Antone, the company's general counsel. By 2016, sellers were speaking out about Amazon's growing counterfeit problem, telling CNBC of the company's effort to openly court Chinese manufacturers. "There's a lot more space on that digital shelf for potential counterfeit products," he added. Agents seized "multiple tractor trailer loads" of counterfeit MultiCam products, estimated to be worth $8 million, according to court documents. Crye showed CNBC examples of counterfeit MultiCam products that were allegedly sold by retailer L&Q Tactical, one of the defendants in the lawsuit, on Amazon.

Luxury stocks may be a risky China stimulus bet
  + stars: | 2024-10-19 | by ( Hakyung Kim | In Hakyungkim | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +7 min
A post-pandemic spending surge led to luxury stocks such as LVMH to reach all-time highs in early 2023, but that soon changed. We believe improved confidence and sentiment is required to reach even our flat year-over-year Chinese luxury growth forecast for 2025," Wallace noted. Luxury stocks are feeling the pressure — year to date, U.S.-traded shares of major players LVMH and Kering are down about 17% and 41%, respectively. Analysts and investors are mixed as to whether the Chinese stimulus measures can revive luxury spending growth among consumers — and whether it will create a meaningful tailwind for luxury companies. Whether the luxury sector can continue growing at the same levels without as much Chinese consumer spending remains in question.

CNN —A mile and a half beneath the ocean’s surface, the seafloor seems nearly as alien as the surfaces of other planets. These hydrothermal vents belch warm towers of elements that draw clusters of animal life, such as tube worms. There, animals develop symbiotic relationships with bacteria that use chemical reactions to produce sugars necessary for life beyond the reach of sunlight. Mónika Naranjo-Shepherd/Schmidt Ocean InstitueThe arms of an underwater robot helped uncover communities of giant tube worms and snails living in volcanic caves beneath warm vents in the Pacific Ocean. The finding suggests unique ecosystems on the seafloor and within the subseafloor are connected, allowing life to thrive above and below the ocean bed.

But TikTok users — many of whom speculated the rug was evidence of a larger crime — expressed disappointment on Friday when the woman, who goes by Katie Santry on TikTok, revealed that the rug she uncovered didn’t contain a body. In comments, TikTok users offered their own theories on what they described as “rug gate” — advising Santry to contact lawyers and psychics and asking Santry about her neighbors. Some also speculated that missing people from Columbus-area cold cases could be buried in the rug. TikTok comments encouraged Santry to contact the police, who initially told her to try digging up the rug herself, she said. “There were no bones, there was no body, it was just a rug … This should be a sigh of relief.
