CNN —More than 1.5 million years ago, two different species of ancient human crossed paths on a lakeshore, perhaps locking eyes with each other. The researchers found 12 hominin tracks in a line, suggesting they were made by the same individual. “There’s one long trackway with 12 (hominin) footprints in it. We hypothesize that those more humanlike footprints are more likely Homo erectus just because the rest of their anatomy is so human,” Hatala said. Rico Carty, who won the 1970 NL batting title when he hit a major league-best .366 for the Atlanta Braves, has died. A family friend told Listín Diario — a newspaper in Carty’s native Dominican Republic — that he died Saturday night in an Atlanta hospital. The Braves moved from Milwaukee to Atlanta after the 1965 season, and Carty got the franchise’s first hit in its new home on April 12, 1966, against Pittsburgh. CNN —Jay Leno is “black and blue” after falling down a 60-foot hill on his way out for dinner. Showing off his injuries on camera, Leno revealed that he broke his wrist, lost a fingernail and is “all black and blue” – on the left-hand side of his body, as well as his face. He told TMZ that he thought: “The hill doesn’t look that steep – about 60, 70 feet. “It isn’t a big deal, it’s alright,” he told TMZ. The fall comes two years after Leno suffered severe burns to his face and body.

New York CNN —A machine is giving McDonald’s a headache, and this time it’s not the one that makes ice cream. Melitta, the manufacturer of the $3,000 espresso machine, informed customers of a problem with the equipment, forcing McDonald’s to temporarily decommission them while the issue is resolved. As a result, McDonald’s customers can’t order its espresso-based drinks, including frappés and Americanos. The chain recently launched a spinoff restaurant called CosMc’s that focuses on specialty coffee drinks. “One area of focus has been identifying ways for McDonald’s to participate in attractive and fast-growing categories … we’ve honed in on specialty beverages and coffee,” McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski previously said.

Beyoncé is expected to perform at the halftime show for the Christmas Day matchup between the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, which will be streaming live on Netflix. The singer will perform during the halftime show of the Houston Texans-Baltimore Ravens NFL game on Christmas Day in her hometown of Houston, Netflix announced on Sunday. “Your early Christmas wish has been granted as Beyoncé will perform during Netflix’s first-ever NFL Christmas Gameday,” the streaming giant said in a press release. This will be the third NFL halftime show for Beyoncé, who previously performed at Super Bowls in 2013 and 2016. Netflix is streaming both of the NFL’s Christmas Day games this year as part of a wider three-year deal with the league.
