An old video of a dummy fighter jet set ablaze by supporters of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in May 2023 in Mianwali, Pakistan, has been falsely captioned as showing scenes from a November 2023 attack at an air base in that city. A post on X (archived), formerly known as Twitter, shared the video on the day of the militant attack captioned: “Pak Airforce fighter jets up in flames. Meanwhile, Mianwali airbase attack still ongoing.” The video was also shared on Facebook (archived). Police arrested hundreds of supporters of ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan for violence following Khan's arrest on corruption charges in May, including attacks on state-owned buildings and vehicles. A video of a burning airplane is from protests in Mianwali, Pakistan, in May 2023, not from a militant attack in November.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Nine Islamist militants attacked an air force training base in the central Pakistani area of Mianwali on Saturday damaging three "non-operational" aircraft, the military said, adding that all assailants had been killed by security forces. Three militants were killed before they entered the base while the others had been cornered before the clearance operation began, the military said in a statement. The military said nine militants had been killed in the attack on the Pakistan Air Force Training Airbase Mianwali. "No damage has been done to any of the Pakistan Air Force's functional operational assets, while only some damage was done to three already phased out non-operational aircraft during the attack," the military statement said. Islamist militant group Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement sent to journalists by its spokesperson.

ISLAMABAD, June 24 (Reuters) - Pakistan's army claimed on Saturday that two civilians were killed by Indian forces in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, the first such conflict since a ceasefire in 2021 between the two nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours. "The Indian Army, in a display of its usual inhumane approach towards innocent Kashmiris, opened indiscriminate fire onto a group of shepherds in Sattwal Sector," the statement said. The Indian army did not respond to a request for comment. Both India and Pakistan lay claim over the disputed territory, but each control half of it. Condemning the killings and ceasefire violation, the Pakistani foreign office summoned the Indian envoy to register a protest, the statement said.
