TuesdayA quick-moving storm is bringing rain to parts of the East Coast while a few snowflakes fall around the Great Lakes. High elevation snow will bury areas from California’s Sierra Nevada to the Colorado Rockies while rain falls at lower elevations. Conditions will ease throughout the day for California and Nevada but sloppy weather will persist farther east, especially in Utah and Colorado. Dreary weather will extend from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast as the storm that formed late Wednesday pushes east. The Thanksgiving day storm will largely be out of the East by sunrise but lake-effect snow will start up for areas downwind of the Great Lakes as Arctic air rushes over the record-warm lakes.

The storm will roll through parts of the Midwest and South Wednesday night and spread across the East on Thanksgiving Day. Scenario one: A stronger, faster stormThe first scenario would have a storm develop in the Plains Wednesday and strengthen as it heads east. Spanish retailer Mango is embarking on a bold expansion plan in the U.S. as it looks to shed its fast-fashion image and position itself as a premium brand. "We have also the opportunity to have bigger stores in the U.S.," he noted, adding Mango will open some multiline stores that feature men's and kids' items. Mango's sales grew more than 10% in the U.S. this year and the company expects to see double-digit growth again next year. The goal is part of a larger strategic plan at Mango focused on growing sales from about 3.1 billion euros annually to 4 billion euros by 2026. We also have 500 people taking care of the product from end to end," said Ruiz.

Forecasters are increasingly calling for a cold, soggy Thanksgiving week as west-to-east winter-pattern storms continued to roll across the continental landscape. The possibly wet, snowy and cold weather could meet what's anticipated to be the busiest Thanksgiving travel week to-date, the Transportation Security Administration said. A diagonal, low-pressure front accompanied by rain, snow and dipping temperatures was possible for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Thanksgiving, the federal Weather Prediction Center said. The National Weather Service office for Minneapolis said in a forecast discussion that ice-cold air was likely to arrive midweek. Santa Rosa, California, recorded nearly 12.5 inches of rain in three days, which the weather service office in Monterey said was a 1,000-year event.

A wildfire in southwestern Massachusetts grew to 1,000 acres this week, the second fire in the region to reach that size this month. As droughts and heat intensify, the risk of wildfires like these becoming catastrophic is growing across the United States. But after generations of suppressing fire, many millions of acres of brush and tree fuels have built up, increasing the risk of large, dangerous wildfires. Prescribed-burn associations — neighbors helping neighbors burn — are addressing some of these issues by pooling community members’ resources, experience and time. In an era of greater wildfire risk driven by fuel accumulation and global warming, governments should be swiftly removing barriers to the use of prescribed fires on private land.

New York CNN —Egg prices have risen steadily over the past two years. Egg prices at the grocery store were up 30.4% in October from the year prior, according to the consumer-price index. Increased demand from holiday cooking makes egg prices even more volatile. Avian flu, which is spread through wild birds, has been plaguing farmers and egg supply since January 2022. “Our egg prices really ride the waves associated with high influenza,” said Bernt Nelson, an economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Experts point to turnout and dissatisfaction with the economy as the driving forces behind the results. “The main story is the relatively low levels of turnout for Harris in key Democratic places compared to Biden in 2020,” Kollman said. Riverside, another California county where Asian Americans have strong representation, also flipped for the GOP in a photo-finish race decided by a few thousand votes. But while Harris’ vote count grew 21%, it was no match for Trump’s nearly 50% improvement. But in counties with the largest share of advanced degree holders, Trump actually gained votes while Harris shed them.

CNN —Thanksgiving dinner will cost less this year than last but will still be 19% higher than before the pandemic, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Thanksgiving survey out Wednesday. The average cost of this year’s dinner for 10 people is $58.08, or about $5.80 per person, the survey found. The center piece of the Thanksgiving meal, the turkey, helped bring down the overall cost. But items like cubed stuffing and dinner rolls both increased by 8% because of higher labor costs, the AFBF said. The cost of the Thanksgiving dinner items varies based on location, the survey found.
