An Idaho teenager has been arrested over a month after a dead baby was found in the Safe Haven Baby Box at the Grove Creek Medical Center in Blackfoot, police said. The newborn baby girl was removed from the box at the medical center “within a minute” after a medical team responded to an alarm notifying them that an infant had been placed there on Oct. 13. But it was discovered that the newborn had been dead long before she was placed in the baby box, according to a news release from Safe Haven Baby Boxes published last month. "The Safe Haven Baby Box is intended to safely and anonymously allow custodial parents to surrender a newborn under 30 days old without legal repercussions, provided the child is unharmed," the Blackfoot Police Department said in a news release Friday. "Unfortunately, the placement of a harmed or deceased infant is not protected under this system or Idaho law."

Abortion rights groups are bracing for an especially tough fight in conservative Missouri, where they see one of the most restrictive bans in the country in place. Dentists began giving kids fluoride treatments. About 70% of community water systems in Florida receive fluoridated water, according to the surgeon general’s release. Parents said their kids’ teeth were full of cavities despite drinking and brushing regularly with what they thought for years was fluoridated water. Adding fluoride to water systems “mitigates the impact of disparities in access to dental care,” said Jetelina, the epidemiologist. “This is one of the beauties of public health — a mainly invisible population intervention, helping the most vulnerable.”Still, the scrutiny continues.

Millions of Americans facing retirement are worried they won't be financially prepared — or fear that they'll have to work forever. She also didn't realize that because she has a pension in addition to receiving Social Security when she retires, she would be affected by a little-known Social Security provision that would lower her monthly check. “It’s many, many things under one umbrella.”Although people diagnosed with autism often have similar strengths and challenges, “there are many paths to autism and many presentations of autism,” Miller said. Scientists have identified more than 100 genes related to autism, Miller said, and genes are believed to play a role in 60% to 80% of cases. “We’re making leaps and bounds about known genetic causes of autism.”Yet genes clearly don’t explain every case of autism. But only a fraction of children with the genetic mutation actually develop autism, Miller said. He notes that only 8.4% of the $419 million spent on autism research in the United States is devoted to support and services for people with autism.

Generic drugs are the backbone of medicines prescribed in the U.S.: They account for about 90% of all prescriptions filled, according to the Association for Accessible Medicines, a trade group that represents generic drugmakers. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson on Trump’s transition team, declined to say whether Trump planned to grant an exemption on generic drugs. According to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, a group that tracks drug shortages, there are 277 active drug shortages in the U.S., half of which have persisted for two or more years. That’s different from generic drugs, which are cheaper and are often sold at close to the cost for which they were made, he said. What concerns Kesselheim the most is that tariffs could cause generic drug prices to skyrocket should more generic drug manufacturers drop out.

Skulls found on a New Mexico property earlier this month were obtained online and are not related to the case of a woman who went missing in 2019, the Lea County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. Human remains were found after a search of a property associated with the man in Jal, a city of around 2,000 in the southeastern part of the state, the sheriff's office said last week. The medical examiner determined the remains found on the property had "no medical or legal significance," the sheriff's office said. On Nov. 12, shortly after the discovery of the remains, the sheriff's office said it could be related to Angela McManes, who disappeared in 2019. Two days later, the sheriff's office said there did not appear to be a link between the skulls and McManes beyond the proximity of her home to the property where the skulls were found.

Jordan Neely died from the “combined effects” of a number of a factors, not a chokehold, a forensic pathologist hired by Daniel Penny’s attorneys testified Thursday. Penny, 26, who was a passenger on the train, put Neely in a chokehold and took him to the ground. Chundru said he did not believe that Neely died of a chokehold or that Penny had applied consistent and sufficient pressure to render him unconscious. These additives, along with high levels of sugar, salt and fat, help create the overwhelming lure of ultraprocessed foods. Ultraprocessed foods are typically high in added sugars, fats and salt; low in dietary fiber; and full of chemical additives, such as artificial colors, flavors and stabilizers. “There’s a lot of debate about whether or not all ultraprocessed foods are bad for you,” Hall said. Israel pressed on with its bombardment of Lebanon on Friday after issuing widespread evacuation warnings in the country’s south, as the conflict with Hezbollah militants showed no sign of abating despite a U.S.-led push for a cease-fire. Some of the Israeli strikes, which came as Lebanon celebrated its independence day, hit near the southern port city of Tyre, following calls by the Israeli military for civilians to evacuate entire towns in the area and flee more than 20 miles north. Bombings also targeted the Dahiya, the area near Beirut that is in effect controlled by Hezbollah and has been hit hard in recent days. Lebanon’s health ministry said an Israeli strike on Friday killed two paramedics south of Tyre. More than 145 medical workers in Lebanon have been killed in the line of duty since fighting between Israel and Hezbollah began last October, according to the U.N. World Health Organization.
