CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday opined on pervasive inflation, saying companies must bring down prices if they want to attract consumers in the current economic landscape. "Companies are so reluctant to take prices down because they don't want to hurt their treasured gross margins," he said. He also attributed some of the issues at Nike to inflation, saying they're "emblematic of how higher prices are changing the face of business." While consumers protest higher prices, Cramer said they — and Wall Street — are responding well to companies that offer bargains or have reduced prices. He added that companies that roll back prices can offset the costs with volume.

Florida ranks sixth among states with the largest shares of homeowners who don't have meaningful insurance. Putnam County, in the northern part of the state, is at 32.9%, while in Miami-Dade County, nearly 25% lack homeowners insurance that would protect them from calamity. In Miami-Dade County, 33.5% of homeowners pay $4,000-plus a year, ranking it in the top 10 among the country's most populous counties. Curtis, who has lived in Taylor County for 40 years and is a former forester, said many of her neighbors can't afford to pay for insurance. Her insurance doesn't cover hurricane damage, so McDonald will anxiously await news from home until the storm passes, she said.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday again confirmed that she once worked at McDonald's, pushing back against former President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly claimed she never worked there. "Part of the reason I even talk about having worked at McDonald's is because there are people who work at McDonald's in our country who are trying to raise a family," she said. A spokesperson for the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Harris' remarks. Trump has also insisted that Harris' anecdote about having worked at the fast-food chain is a "fake story." During Wednesday's interview, Harris said: "My mother raised my sister and me.

Childcare is often top of mind for parents — and it might also be a deciding factor at the ballot box. Many parents just don't have the luxury of relying on family to provide childcare, Drew said, and they shouldn't have to. Bock said that it would be helpful to find a way to pay grandparents for childcare responsibilities. And yet an unusual air of uncertainty overhangs this week's meeting: It’s unclear just how large the Fed’s rate cut will be. Wall Street traders and some economists foresee a growing likelihood that the central bank will announce a larger-than-usual half-point cut. Many analysts foresee a more typical quarter-point rate cut. This week's move is expected to be only the first in a series of Fed rate cuts that will extend into 2025. Over time, Fed rate cuts should lower borrowing costs for mortgages, auto loans and credit cards, as well as for business loans.
