CNN —At least 11 people have been killed and several others injured after an Israeli strike flattened a multi-story residential building in central Beirut overnight, Lebanese officials said. At least 23 other people were injured in the strike, according to a toll provided by Lebanon’s Civil Defense. Saturday’s attack marks the latest in a string of Israeli strikes on central Beirut in recent weeks, following the killing of a Hezbollah spokesperson in an airstrike last Sunday. Most Israeli airstrikes have targeted the Lebanese militant group’s stronghold in Beirut’s southern suburbs since hostilities ramped up early last month. On Friday, the director general of Dar Al Amal University Hospital near Baalbek in eastern Lebanon was killed along with six of his colleagues in an alleged Israeli strike, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court could further weaken the power of federal agencies by agreeing on Friday to hear a dispute over a Federal Communications Commission program that requires companies to subsidize telecommunications services in underserved areas. The FCC case raises two interlinked issues, one of which concerns the broad question of whether Congress exceeded its powers. The FCC turned to the Supreme Court after the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. The Supreme Court earlier this year issued a series of rulings against federal agencies, including one overturning a 40-year-old precedent that gave leeway to agencies to interpret laws written ambiguously. The latest print once again brings inflation above the Bank of England's 2% target, potentially dampening the prospects of a final interest rate cut this year. Core inflation, which excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, came in at 3.3% for the month, up slightly from 3.2% in September. CNN —The reaction from Democrats to Donald Trump’s 2024 victory is, to put it mildly, very much unlike their reaction to his 2016 win. When asked whether Trump’s win was legitimate, about 94% of voters said it was. This includes 64% who agreed that Trump’s win was legitimate and supported his presidency and another 30% who accepted Trump’s victory but indicated that they would oppose his presidency. A third of Clinton supporters in a mid-November 2016 ABC News/Washington Post poll said that Trump’s win was not legitimate. Democrats may have accepted Trump’s win, but he’s likely to upset them greatly during his presidency.
