Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's new golf league, TGL, is getting some fresh star power representing the Big Apple. Cohen Private Ventures, the family office of Steve Cohen, announced on Thursday that Eli Manning, Derek Jeter, CC Sabathia, Michael Strahan, John McEnroe and Jimmy Fallon are joining the New York Golf Club's investor group as limited partners. Cohen, who also owns Major League Baseball's New York Mets, acquired the rights to the New York Golf team last September. TGL is the new primetime, high-tech golf league launched by Woods, McIlroy and Golf Channel executive Mike McCarley. Former New York Yankees star Jeter told CNBC he was drawn to the investment opportunity because it combines his passion for golf and his love of New York.

"I think that social media and the monopolies of social media have sort of gotten us used to the fact that certain things that drive engagement will be attractive," she added. LONDON British telecom firms Vodafone and Three's multibillion-pound merger could go ahead if the companies adopt a series of proposed remedies to clear competition concerns, regulators said Tuesday. Vodafone has previously said that the combined entity, once merged, would invest £11 billion ($14.46 billion) into U.K. telecommunications infrastructure. Vodafone has also said it disagrees with earlier findings from the CMA that the merger would lead to price increases for consumers. It says the merger wouldn't pricing strategy and would enhance competition between mobile virtual network operators, or MVNOs. "Approval would mark one of the most significant developments in the history of UK mobile, heralding the arrival of a new market leader with over 29 million customers," Manning said in emailed comments.

An American Civil Liberties Union lawyer will make history in December as the first openly transgender attorney to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court, opposing Tennessee’s Republican-backed law banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors. The Supreme Court on Monday ordered that the argument time for the ban’s challengers be divided between the Justice Department and attorneys representing the original plaintiffs who sued the state. Several plaintiffs — including two transgender boys, a transgender girl and their parents — sued in Tennessee to defend the treatments they have said improved their happiness and wellbeing. The Supreme Court has confronted several cases in the past decade implicating LGBTQ rights. In 2020, it ruled that a landmark federal law forbidding workplace discrimination protects gay and transgender employees.

☆ Arch Manning to start Texas’ SEC opener vs. Mississippi State with Quinn Ewers still out

Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers will not play on Saturday against Mississippi State, the school announced, meaning redshirt freshman Arch Manning will make his second career start in the Longhorns’ SEC opener. Ewers has been recovering from a strained oblique suffered in the second quarter of Texas’ Sept. 14 win against UTSA. Ewers was listed as questionable when the SEC released its daily availability report on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night. Texas is off next week and faces Oklahoma in the annual Red River rivalry on Oct. 12 in Dallas. Manning had an up-and-down performance in his first start last week, completing 15 of 29 passes.
