The bugler’s call to assemble had sounded, wreaths had been laid, a choral society had sung and dignitaries had spoken, all on a blood-consecrated hill in the Pennsylvania town of Gettysburg. All to commemorate the 161st anniversary of the speech that came to epitomize what it meant to be presidential. On Nov. 19, 1863, on this very hill, President Abraham Lincoln unfolded his six-foot-four frame to stand and dedicate a national soldiers’ cemetery made necessary by the horrific Battle of Gettysburg just four months earlier. His 272 words became a civic prayer of unity and purpose for a nation riven by civil war: the Gettysburg Address. He, too, is bearded, but he grew up in the borough of Queens, not the woods of Kentucky, and he stands five-foot-nine, maybe.

New York CNN —The Jeep Gladiator was unveiled to great fanfare by then-owner Fiat Chrysler in 2018, the first pickup model for the hot brand in more than a quarter of a century. Gladiator sales have fallen steadily from the 2020 peak as a result and are down another 21% so far this year. The company’s relentless focus on short-term profits for 2023 had devastating consequences for Stellantis, Farris wrote. A car hauler transporting Jeep Wranglers drives past striking United Auto Workers members outside the Stellantis Jeep Plant in Toledo, Ohio, during the 2023 strike. One of the two factories at that assembly complex is about to lose one of the two shifts that builds the Jeep Gladiator.

The U.S. auto safety regulator has opened two new probes into potential defects related to Ford vehicles. ODI said it had received three complaints about the retractors in model year 2019-2020 Ford Expeditions. "The complaints allege hearing a loud sound immediately followed by the seat belt rapidly tightening," the release states. ODI says Ford already issued a recall related to this issue, but that the Expeditions, as well as potential issues affecting model year 2018-2019 Lincoln Navigator vehicles, were not included in it. A spokesman for Ford said in an email the company was working with NHTSA to support its investigations.

Learn more about the dark saga of Sante and Kenneth Kimes in the latest episode of “How It Really Happened,” airing Sunday at 10 p.m. As investigators dug deeper they learned that “Manny Guerrin,” the name Kenneth Kimes gave Silverman when he rented the apartment, did not exist. In a 2000 interview with CNN’s Larry King, Sante Kimes called their arrest a witch hunt, saying they were victims of mistaken identity. Kenneth Kimes Sr. pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, but Sante Kimes went to prison in 1985. Two US Navy destroyers came under attack by the Houthis on Monday. The destroyers USS Stockdale and USS Spruance came under fire as they were transiting the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a strategic maritime chokepoint between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The Navy repelled multiple Houthi attacks involving at least three anti-ship cruise missiles, five anti-ship ballistic missiles, and eight one-way attack drones, Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters at a press briefing Tuesday. Earlier, the Houthis said they attacked the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea and two unnamed American destroyers in the Red Sea. The attack against the destroyers on Monday marks the latest Houthi attack on Navy warships off the coast of Yemen.

CNN —Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the most senior leader in the Church of England, has resigned over his handling of a child abuse case, according to his official account. “Having sought the gracious permission of His Majesty The King, I have decided to resign as Archbishop of Canterbury,” Welby said in a statement on Tuesday. Pressure had been mounting on Welby in recent days, following an independent review into “sickening abuse” committed by John Smyth, a deceased British lawyer considered the worst serial abuser linked to the Church of England. The pair exchanged Christmas cards and Welby donated small sums of money to his “missions” in Zimbabwe. Until now, there’s been no historical precedent for an Archbishop of Canterbury resigning over child abuse.

Firefighters from coast to coast are battling wildfires even as the country begins to prepare for the holiday season, with fires in New Jersey covering thousands of acres in tinderbox conditions created by a historic drought. It's inevitable that this fire is going to continue to burn up until it reaches our control line," New Jersey Forest Fire Service Chief Bill Donnelly said at a news conference Sunday. In New York State the total is 60 wildfires covering 2,100 acres in the same timeframe. One blaze, the Hill Fire in Burlington County, has been burning since July 5, he said. There was some rain across the tri-state area Sunday night, but less than half an inch, the National Weather Service in Mount Holly said.

As well as heading the Church of England, the Archbishop of Canterbury acts as the “first among equals” leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which includes the Episcopal Church in the United States. Although Smyth sought ordination to the Church of England, he was refused and moved to Zimbabwe in 1984. The report estimates he went on to abuse 85 to 100 male children aged 13 to 17 in Africa. During his time in office, Welby has demanded accountability from those accused of mishandling abuse, including his predecessor, Lord Carey, and the former Bishop of Lincoln. A resignation by an Archbishop of Canterbury over child abuse would be without any obvious historical precedent and there is no mechanism with which to remove an archbishop.

After maternity leave, my wife was excited to see her coworkers and jump back into her job. When others find out I'm a stay-at-home dad, they always ask: "When are you going back to work?" We are trained to graduate, get a good job, work that job forever, then retire at 65.

If you're looking for a livable city with a lower cost of living that offers a solid work-life balance and abundant recreational opportunities, consider Portland, Maine. Portland earned high marks for both quality of life and location and community. Cities in this region generally scored highly on cost of living. In Lincoln, Nebraska, for example, residents enjoy a cost of living about 6% lower than the national average, RentCafe found. But Portland's high quality of life may make up for the cost of living and give it an advantage in the overall rankings.

“We’re conducting an auction of a number of the most historic objects relating to American history that has ever come up for sale,” said Arlan Ettinger, president of New York-based Guernsey’s auction house. One of the most intriguing items is the strands of hair of Washington, the very first US president, who died in 1799. The graying hair has been preserved in a locket that was given to a family friend and passed down the generations. A lock of hair belonging to George Washington carries an auction house estimate of $30,000 to $40,000. 03:09 - Source: CNNThe Nov. 22 sale will be conducted online and previewed at the Arader Galleries in New York City.
