Not every private school is “synonymous with privilege and great wealth,” argues Sue Hannam, headteacher at Lichfield Cathedral School, a private school in central England. Katie Drummond will be the next top editor of Wired, overseeing the tech publication’s teams around the world. Condé Nast, the publisher of Wired, announced on Thursday the appointment of Ms. Drummond as its global editorial director. Ms. Drummond joins from Vice Media, where she was the senior vice president of global news and entertainment, in charge of Vice News and the company’s digital brands. Ms. Drummond will be the first woman to lead Wired in its 30-year history. Ms. Drummond, 37, was an intern at Wired in 2009.

In annual terms, house price inflation slowed to 7.8%, with quarterly growth at 0.7%, the lowest rate since February 2020. Zoopla predicts British house price growth to head towards 0% and possibly enter negative territory next year. A separate survey published on Friday showed property demand has shifted from buying to renting amid financial uncertainty.

Peel Hunt analyst Sam Cullen said any stamp duty cut could help housebuilders better offset inflation in building costs, which has been largely cushioned by higher house prices. The Times said the plan to cut stamp duty would be part of new Prime Minister Liz Truss's drive to boost economic growth. A temporary stamp duty cut was used to support the market by previous finance minister Rishi Sunak during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, no stamp duty is paid on the first 125,000 pounds ($141,650) of any property purchase.
