In the first year of the NBA’s In-Season Tournament, basketball fans have become used to a few new things: purple courts, weird scheduling, the concept of a group stage. But they’re still wrapping their minds around how much they should really care about this whole competition. Now, as the inaugural event moves into the quarterfinals and gets ready for this week’s Final Four in Las Vegas, officials at eight city halls across the country are beginning to wonder the same thing. The question that at least one of them will have to answer: Is winning the in-season tournament worth a parade?

Both children received help through telehealth therapy, a service that schools around the country are offering in response to soaring mental health struggles among American youth. The growth reflects a booming new business born from America’s youth mental health crisis, which has proven so lucrative that venture capitalists are funding a new crop of school teletherapy companies. For rural schools and lower-income students in particular, it has made therapy easier to access. Schools let students connect with online counselors during the school day or after hours from home. It now employs more than 300 clinicians providing teletherapy in over 150 school districts in 15 states.

They blew a 17-point lead, watched Oregon go ahead by four and immediately responded with the drive of the game. And now the third-ranked Huskies not only are the Pac-12 champions, they secured a spot in the College Football Playoff with a 34-31 victory over No. Only Oregon State and Washington State will remain as they try to find a way to keep the tradition-rich conference together in some form. Washington took a 20-3 lead before the Ducks scored a touchdown with nine seconds left to get to within 10 points. A self-service TSA screening model may be making its way to an airport near you. The programs are meant to expedite screening while improving safety, the DHS said in a press release. AdvertisementAs officials at the Transportation Security Administration grapple with air travel resuming at pre-pandemic levels, the Department of Homeland Security is testing out self-service screening options. "Like self-ordering kiosks at fast food and sit-down restaurants, self-service screening allows passengers in the Trusted Traveler Program to complete the security screening process on their own," John Fortune, the program's manager, said in the press release. The son of NBA career scoring leader LeBron James was upbeat and jovial as he knocked down seven consecutive 3-pointers at one point during warmups, and then joined assistant coach Kurt Karis for an impromptu dance move on the sideline. James ignited the crowd when he rose up and jammed home a one-handed dunk. James was expected to have a final evaluation with USC staff before resuming practice next week, a family spokesperson said in a statement. When the team returned to the court for the start of the game, James took his spot at the end of the bench, donning gray USC sweats. The NBA In-Season Tournament, running this year for the first time, is the league’s idea for that mid-season boost. The media rights to NBA games are up after the 2024-2025 season, and the tournament could make the NBA’s television rights more lucrative to potential networks and streaming bidders. To add intrigue to the tournament, each of the 30 NBA teams has a distinct court design and jersey for games. The NBA’s strategy behind the colorful court designs was to attract attention — even if some of the reaction to the courts has been negative. The NBA in-season tournament is the latest example of sports leagues adapting to try to add excitment in an increasingly competitive media environment.

But home prices are still on the rise, according to a November 28 note from Selma Hepp, the chief economist at CoreLogic. The outcome is that many remain renters, which drives up demand for rental property and the cost of rent. If the cost of rent is 20% below the price of owning a home monthly, then it may be comparable. Rent prices are based on listings from Rent.com. For example, take the cost of rent over five years; let's say it's $3,000 x 12 months = $36,000 annually.
