The Harris campaign also dramatically outspent the Trump campaign in August, burning through about $174 million. By comparison, Trump’s campaign spent just $61 million last month, with the lion’s share – more than $47 million – going toward media buys. The Trump and Harris campaigns are aligned with an array of committees that file disclosure reports on a separate schedule. The Trump campaign, as CNN has previously reported, has opted to outsource much of its ground game operation to outside organizations. The super PAC spent more than $77 million in August, including nearly $62 million on independent expenditures to benefit the vice president’s campaign.

Both of these lawmakers have two things in common: they are among those being considered to be Vice President Harris' running mate and can help raise a boatload of money for her heading into November. The Harris campaign figures cannot be independently verified either, until Aug. 20, when her campaign disclose its financials. What the LIFT Act would mean todaySince the LIFT Act was first proposed in 2018, the cost of living has only sky-rocketed, hitting working-class Americans especially hard. But a tax credit like LIFT would also be extremely costly, according to Tax Policy Center estimates from 2018 and 2019. However, funding such a tax credit now could be tough amid growing concerns over the federal budget deficit. Focus on the child tax creditLIFT was first proposed years before Congress temporarily expanded the child tax credit during the Covid-19 pandemic, which could now be a bigger priority, experts say. The American Rescue Plan boosted the child tax credit to $3,000 from $2,000, with an extra $600 for children under age 6 for 2021, and families received up to half upfront via monthly payments.

CNN —The five days since Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign launched at warp speed have remade the 2024 race – and given Democrats new hope of preventing a second Donald Trump presidency. Fundraising exploded, with Harris’ campaign saying she raised $126 million between Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening. And Democrats were more eager to devote their own time to working to elect Harris: More than 100,000 people signed up to volunteer for her bid, and more than 2,000 applied for campaign jobs, Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a Wednesday memo. The strength of Harris’ launch has at times surprised even the former Biden campaign staffers who on Sunday suddenly found themselves working for what was converted into the Harris campaign. Biden’s campaign believed his path to 270 Electoral College votes ran through the “blue wall” states – Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Kevin Mohatt | ReutersVice President Kamala Harris on Sunday received President Joe Biden's endorsement to replace him at the top of the Democratic ticket in the race against Donald Trump. "I am honored to have the President's endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination," Harris said in a Sunday statement. Biden's endorsement puts Harris on a glidepath to the Democratic nomination. Secure nominationThough Harris has a significant leg-up with Biden's endorsement, she is not the Democratic nominee until the necessary number of delegates say so. The voting process will repeat itself until a candidate wins a majority and can be officially designated the Democratic nominee.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris departs Air Force Two as she arrives at Pope Army Airfield to campaign in Fayetteville, North Carolina, U.S., July 18, 2024. Kevin Mohatt | ReutersA call Friday featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and about 300 major Democratic donors left many who dialed in frustrated, with one donor declaring it "ludicrous" shortly before it ended, according to two sources familiar with the call. During the call, Harris, who was asked to join the call by Biden's senior advisors, praised Biden, according to campaign officials. NBC News reached out to the Biden campaign for comment. But what angered many donors, this source said, was that during the wait — which was about 20 minutes — donors were "admonished."

RFK Jr. may have already peaked in the presidential race

CNN —Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is perhaps the biggest X factor remaining in the presidential race. That’s better than any third-party or independent candidate has polled in an individual survey at this stage in the cycle since Ross Perot in 1996. Biden is likely aware that Kennedy voters tend to skew younger – a demographic that traditionally leans Democratic. Perhaps more concerning for the independent candidate is what’s going on under the hood. He’d previously never had a net negative favorable rating in the double digits.

The trial is the last of three in the death of McClain, 23. Prosecutors allege the paramedics injected him with 500 mg of the sedative ketamine after incorrectly estimating his weight to be 200 pounds (91 kg). After Floyd's death ignited global protests, Colorado Governor Jared Polis in June 2020 asked the state attorney general's office to investigate McClain's case. Decarbonisation in mining still a long way off

Engineering student Mark Peirce from the School of Mines poses for a portrait in the college's experimental mine in Idaho Springs, Colorado, U.S., December 9, 2021. As metals are used across many different industries that serve customers across various geographies, it is difficult for mining companies to account for the whole supply chain. The International Council on Mining and Metals , whose members include around 25 mining companies, on Thursday published guidance for all mining companies on how to account and report their Scope 3 - or indirect - emissions "to try and answer the problem of patchy data to make companies report consistently," its CEO Rohitesh Dhawan said at the conference. Scope 1 refers to a company's direct emissions, Scope 2 to indirect emissions from purchased energy while Scope 3 refers to all other indirect emissions, for example from a company's third-party suppliers. Mining companies have set targets to decarbonise and mostly aim to reach net zero by 2040 and 2050, but some are struggling to keep up.

REUTERS/Kevin Mohatt/June 30 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday is poised to rule on whether a Christian web designer from Colorado has a right to refuse to provide services for same-sex marriages based on constitutional free speech protections - a case that could upend state anti-discrimination laws. The liberal justices during the argument said a decision favoring Smith could empower certain businesses to discriminate. Smith thus is free to sell whatever she wants, including websites with biblical passages stating an opposite-sex vision of marriage. The Supreme Court has supported religious rights and related free speech claims in recent years in other cases.

With a Case IH red tractor displayed outside the state Capitol in Denver, Governor Jared Polis, a Democrat, signed The Consumer Right to Repair Agriculture Equipment Act. "This is a common-sense bipartisan bill to help people avoid unnecessary delays from equipment repairs." Right to repair legislation is gaining momentum across the country as lawmakers in 16 states have introduced bills, according to a report by the Public Interest Research Group, an advocacy organization. "Creating more fair market access through right to repair is one of the items that we hope will be included," he said.

REUTERS/Kevin MohattFeb 22 (Reuters) - Several Colorado schools on Wednesday were placed on lockdown after receiving threats, including Boulder High School where police responded to an unconfirmed report of an active shooter, officials said. Alamosa, another school district in Colorado, said someone called saying an armed individual entered the Ortega Middle School, triggering a lockdown that was lifted soon thereafter. Authorities made no mention of whether the alleged threats were connected and it was unclear how many were made. Police in at least two other Colorado communities - Canon and Aspen - were also investigating alleged threats against or near schools on Wednesday morning, a reporter with the Denver Post tweeted.
[1/2] Web designer Lorie Smith, plaintiff in a Supreme Court case who objects to same-sex marriage, poses for a portrait at her office in Littleton, Colorado, U.S., November 28, 2022. The court in that case stopped short of carving out a free speech exemption to anti-discrimination laws. Like Phillips, Smith is represented by attorneys from the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative religious rights group. The Supreme Court did not take up one aspect of her challenge to Colorado law based on religious rights also protected by the First Amendment, focusing on free speech instead. The Supreme Court, with its 6-3 conservative majority, has become increasingly supportive of religious rights and related free speech claims in recent years even as it has backed LGBT rights in other cases.
