Throughout the summer, multiple towns experienced tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service. In July, an EF2 tornado passed through Rome during a severe storm that killed one person and caused widespread damage. There are currently 13 wildfires across the state encompassing more than 5,000 acres, according to Governor Kathy Hochul’s office. An 18-year-old New York State Forest Ranger volunteer and state employee died on November 9 when a tree fell while he was responding to the wildfire in Greenwood Lake. New York City alone has experienced over 230 brush fires since October 29, according to the New York City Fire Department.

Processed food stocks tumbled on Friday as investors feared a crackdown under President-elect Donald Trump and ally Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Cheerios cereal and Betty Crocker cake mix maker General Mills fell more than 2%, as did Conagra Brands , the company behind Reddi-wip. Frozen potato supplier Lamb Weston , whose french fries are sold in chains including McDonald's and Chick-fil-A, dropped more than 6%. Traders are wary that Kennedy's "Make America Healthy Again" focus will result in increased scrutiny of companies behind some of the best-known snack, packaged food and soft-drink brands. The stock bucked the trend with an advance on Friday, but finished down more than 4% on the week.

Finding ways to attract consumers to buy packaged goods stretches back to the 1920s when American psychologist Daniel Starch created the world's first market research study. Founded in Singapore in 2018, the startup provides AI-powered market research with real-time predictive analytics. Rival firms include ZoomInfo Sales, Trajaan and Brandwatch Consumer Intelligence, all of which deploy a variety of technology to comb through consumer data and marketing trends. Somsubhra Gan Choudhuri, co-founder and CEO Ai Palette, said AI can take up much of the brain power usually done by people. Along with VC investors, Ai Palette has had the backing of the Singapore government, which is committing more than three quarters of a billion Singaporean dollars ($7,500,000) to AI development to strengthen its AI ecosystem.

He said that the US "will quit" the war and there's a "military defeat in Ukraine," per reports. AdvertisementHungary's leader, Viktor Orbán, has a chilling forecast: the US will abandon Ukraine under President-elect Donald Trump. Orbán's forecast comes as world leaders hold key meetings this week, in part to discuss the war in Ukraine. European leaders are convening at a European Council summit in Budapest on Friday, where they are expected to discuss security and geopolitics in Ukraine. Orbán was among the first European leaders to congratulate Trump on his victory.

Donald Trump has previously said he could end the war in Ukraine in a day, but never detailed how. Trump's advisors have reportedly set out plans, including setting up a demilitarized zone. AdvertisementDonald Trump is the new US president-elect — and his advisors are laying out plans on how to end the war in Ukraine, according to The Wall Street Journal. Under that plan, Ukraine would also pledge not to join NATO for at least 20 years in exchange for continued US weapons deliveries, they said. Trump has repeatedly said he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours by forcing Russia and Ukraine to negotiate a peace deal — but has never detailed how he would go about it.

Transactional, personality-based and erratic, the Trump doctrine made for a chaotic four years that left both foreign leaders and seasoned American national security aides exhausted and jittery. World leaders are open to all options, including making trips to New York or Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, sources said. Foreign leaders are relying on their experience with Trump during his first presidency, when flattery and personal attention paid dividends, as they approach him following his win. And that, in the end, could sum up Trump’s foreign policy doctrine in a sentence. The first clues about Trump’s policy will be the appointments he makes to senior national security positions.”CNN’s Alayna Treene contributed reporting.

The West WingOne of Trump’s most important picks will be his White House chief of staff. Karoline Leavitt, who was Trump’s campaign spokeswoman, is being considered as White House press secretary – a job that typically is the most public-facing position in the White House. National security postsTrump has suggested his national security team would be tasked with reassessing the United States’ posture toward Ukraine and Russia, China, Iran, and the simmering conflict in the Middle East. The debate over a renewed Trump’s “America First” agenda is expected to pit Republican national security hawks against the party’s isolationist wing. Secretary of state and national security adviser will be among the most hard-fought positions to stand at the forefront of those shifts.

CNN —Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has over $325 billion in cash on hand. Berkshire Hathaway was a net seller of stocks across its portfolio that quarter and grew its cash-on-hand to record amounts. Berkshire Hathaway’s actions signal to investors that its stock might be overvalued, Cathy Seifert, an analyst at CFRA Research, told CNN. Buffett will repurchase shares when he thinks the price is “below Berkshire’s intrinsic value, conservatively determined,” according to Berkshire Hathaway’s regulatory filings. “All this suggests that Buffett has serious concerns about the economic backdrop and the current state of the stock market,” Mould said in a note.

They argue that Casey, a middle-of-the-road liberal, had previously not been at the forefront of the populist economic turn in both parties. Casey’s Senate website dedicates an entire page to “greedflation,” which he also discussed at length in his speech at the Democratic National Convention this summer. The core of Casey’s argument is the assertion that, from July 2020 to July 2022, corporate profits rose five times faster than overall inflation. I would concede the economy has gotten better,” said McCormick, who has run an ad to counter Casey on the topic. “If you’re living paycheck to paycheck, you’re still in the grind, and that’s what I think Bob Casey and Kamala Harris do not understand.

The first person I met at a Monday night meet-and-greet for Dan Osborn, the independent Nebraska Senate candidate, was a Donald Trump-voting Republican named Joe Hallett. He’d worked, alongside his wife, Sherri, with Osborn at Omaha’s Kellogg plant. Explaining Osborn’s appeal, Joe said, “He’s not a millionaire or anything like that.” Sherri added: “He works hard. Meanwhile, companies like Harley-Davidson, Molson Coors, Lowe's, and John Deere have scaled back or dropped their DEI programs. But amid the backlash, some organizations are refining their DEI strategies, focusing on belonging, inclusion, and fair pay alongside other diversity metrics. Companies like Ancestry, Mitre, and HLW are using data to evaluate employee experiences while addressing equity through cultural programs, training, and compensation reviews. "We're seeing more reframing of DEI efforts and a stronger emphasis on systematically linking DEI to a business case." Bussing said companies that shy away from DEI initiatives may find themselves at a disadvantage.

And it is senior military leaders who served under him that have most clearly sounded the alarm about Trump. When he became president, Trump staffed his cabinet with senior generals. Despite Trump’s bromance with the military, senior retired generals and admirals haven’t loved him back. And they are long-shot races, especially during a presidential election, when ticket-splitting isn’t as common as it used to be. In Florida and Texas, Democrats are focusing on state abortion bans to try to push beyond their recent losses in those states. Cruz’s campaign spent almost $5 million on ads in September and $4 million in the first 10 days of October. The spending disparity is less stark in Florida, where in September Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign spent $8.6 million and Scott’s campaign spent $2.1 million. In Maryland, the Senate race features a similar dynamic, with the race rated by Cook as “Likely Democrat,” even though Harris is expected to win there easily.

But Putin is not the only foreign leader Trump is talking to. And it is hardly unusual for a presidential nominee to begin holding some talks with foreign leaders. After the first attempt to assassinate Trump, in July, foreign leaders quickly moved to offer him their well-wishes. Trump has hosted Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso and former British Prime Minister David Cameron when he was the U.K.’s foreign secretary. Katulis was referring to the trove of classified documents Trump kept from his time in office that have become the subject of a criminal case, many of them about his communications with foreign leaders.

Private brands — also called store brands and private-label brands — of foods and beverages have shared shelf space with national brands for years. Customer shopping habits are changing for goodIn the past, the value proposition of private brands was driven primarily by lower prices. But consumer attitudes are evolving, according to a recent survey by the Food Industry Association, which represents both food retailers and producers. And 46% said they expect to buy private brands somewhat or much more, compared to 27% saying that for national brands. Researchers have begun measuring the impact of legalized sports gambling on American households, and the initial results paint a worrisome picture about how its expansion has affected bettors’ finances. In separate papers released this month, academics have found that households in states where gambling was legalized saw significantly reduced savings, as well as lower investments in assets like stocks that are generally considered more financially sound. Meanwhile, states that legalized sports betting saw their residents’ aggregate credit scores decrease, while bankruptcies increased. North Carolina became the most recent state to offer online sports betting earlier this year. Earlier this year, the major sports betting platforms formed the Responsible Online Gaming Association to address problem gambling.
