It's 9:30 a.m., and Augustus Doricko, the mulleted 24-year-old founder of the cloud-seeding company Rainmaker, is clutching a coffee. There's a long way to go before cloud seeding becomes a viable option for solving one of humanity's many self-made crises. El Segundo, population 17,272, has long been a bastion of American engineering, home to aerospace and defense giants like Boeing and Raytheon. As myths about Milton and Helene spread, interest in chemtrails increased too on Google search and social media. Despite the lack of evidence to support it, the so-called chemtrail conspiracy theory has endured for decades. Some of the promotion of the conspiracy theory has taken on a distinctively antisemitic tone. Peters previously promoted the unhinged conspiracy theory that ballots were flown from Asia as part of a plot to steal the 2020 election from President Trump. Friedrich suggested the conspiracy theories blaming weather manipulation for the devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton is a way to distract from the real effects of climate change.

Continental said in November it would cut thousands of jobs in the automotive division worldwide and reduce the number of business areas within the division from six to five. "The automotive business is with us, it stays with us," Setzer said at a media briefing. Its 2023 outlook forecasts an adjusted EBIT margin of 5.5-6.5% on sales of 41 billion to 43 billion euros. It expected an adjusted earnings margin close to 7% at ContiTech, at or above 13% in the tyres division and near 2% in the automotive division, CFO Katja Garcia Vila said.

"We still have significant ground to gain in the fourth quarter," Chief Financial Officer Katja Garcia Vila, formerly Dürrfeld, said. Its automotive business, which suffered a loss in the second quarter, was back to profit with an adjusted earnings margin of 2.8% largely down to raising prices and stabilising supply chains. Still, negative currency exchange rates prompted it to adjust the cars business sales outlook slightly downwards to 20 billion euros from 21 billion previously.

Why white asparagus is so expensive
  + stars: | 2023-08-07 | by ( Chris Snyder | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: 1 min
White asparagus, often referred to as "white gold," can cost three times as much as green asparagus. During this brief period, farms in the area and restaurants around the world offer white-asparagus dishes on their menus. Chef Erwin Schröttner from Cafe Katja in New York City says white asparagus is much juicier than the green variety, and he serves his stalks freshly peeled, boiled, and smothered in hollandaise sauce with various side dishes. But because white asparagus has to be grown in a specialized way that keeps the stalk underground for longer periods of time, these meals come at a premium. Farms like Jakobs-Hof in Beelitz, Germany, work around the clock to make sure their asparagus stalks maintain their pure white color and are of the highest quality.

China failed to advance from the group stage for the first time in a Women's World Cup. A video review before halftime took away a goal or James would've bagged a hat trick against China (1-2-0, three points). England got three goals during group stage matches from James and next plays Nigeria on Monday in Brisbane. Chloe Kelly and Rachel Daly also netted goals for England, which matched its widest margin of victory in a Women's World Cup game. Vietnam concluded its first Women's World Cup appearance with losses in all three of its games.

To report this story, Reuters contacted more than 300 former Tesla employees who had worked at the company over the past nine years and were involved in developing its self-driving system. The company requires car owners to grant permission on the cars’ touchscreens before Tesla collects their vehicles’ data. Reuters found that Tesla employees shared clips that captured sensitive and embarrassing personal moments. Tesla’s own data labelers initially worked in the San Francisco Bay area, including the office in San Mateo. According to several ex-employees, some labelers shared screenshots, sometimes marked up using Adobe Photoshop, in private group chats on Mattermost, Tesla’s internal messaging system.
Tesla Inc. agreed to change camera settings in its cars after complaints from European consumers and an investigation by the Dutch privacy regulator. The last 10 minutes of recorded footage will be saved under the new settings, instead of the hour of footage that was previously stored. The previous camera settings allowed serious privacy violations, the regulator said. PREVIEWWith the new software update, the headlights of Tesla cars will blink if the cameras are recording, and a message will be displayed on an internal touch screen, the Dutch regulator said. The regulator said it planned to investigate how data is transferred out of Tesla cars.
Companies Tesla Inc FollowAMSTERDAM, Feb 22 (Reuters) - The Dutch personal data watchdog said on Wednesday it would not fine Tesla Inc. (TSLA.O) over possible privacy violations after the U.S. carmaker made changes to vehicle security cameras. Tesla uses such cameras in its cars to help owners protect them against theft or vandalism, but the Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) investigated them as a potential violation. The agency said Tesla had made changes to its "Sentry Mode" feature in which the cameras are activated since the DPA investigation began. The agency said as a result, the car's owners, rather than Tesla, would be legally responsible for improper filming. "The DPA's investigation has not resulted in a fine or other sanction for Tesla," it said.
Facial recognition software immediately identifies the man as … a giraffe? While there, she read about how tenants in Brooklyn had fought back against their landlord’s plans to install a facial recognition entry system for their building. “This was the first time I heard about facial recognition,” she says. Whichever route they took, they had to test the images on a well-known object detection system called YOLO, one of the most commonly-used algorithms in facial recognition software. At the recent World Cup in Qatar, creative agency Virtue Worldwide came up with flag-themed face paint for fans seeking to fool the emirate’s legion of facial recognition cameras.
LJUBLJANA, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Slovenians were voting on Sunday in a presidential election runoff, with former TV presenter Natasa Pirc Musar hoping to beat right-wing politician Andze Logar and become the country's first woman president. Although the role is mostly ceremonial, the president heads the army and also nominates several top officials, including the central bank governor. An opinion poll conducted by the Ninamedia agency published in the daily Dnevnik on Friday showed Pirc Musar winning 51.2% of the votes, with Logar taking 48.8%. "I expect the next president to care about us, the citizens, to represent Slovenia in a good manner," Uros Pinter said after casting his ballot in Ljubljana. Pirc Musar, 54, a former TV presenter who is now an influential lawyer, campaigned on human rights, the rule of law and social welfare issues.
LJUBLJANA, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Polls opened in the Slovenian presidential election on Sunday with former foreign minister in the rightist government, Anze Logar, expected to lead the seven candidates after the first round of voting. Opinion polls suggest that no candidate will win the more than 50% of the votes that would secure victory after the first round. The two candidates who win most votes will face run-off in two weeks. Polling stations close at 7 p.m. (1700 GMT) and first results are expected about two hours later. "While the president’s role in Slovenia is largely ceremonial, the election result will reflect voter support for liberal pro-EU political forces in relation to populist eurosceptic parties," the Teneo consultancy said before the election.
Chatbots: A long and complicated history

Nearly 60 years later, the market is flooded with chatbots of varying quality and use cases from tech companies, banks, airlines and more. Others, meanwhile, warn the technology behind AI-powered chatbots remains much more limited than some people wish it may be. While they used similar technology to the earlier, social chatbots, Khudanpur said, “you really couldn’t call them chatbots. )”Return to social chatbots, and social problemsIn the early 2000s, researchers began to revisit the development of social chatbots that could carry an extended conversation with humans. This refrain would be repeated by other tech giants that released public chatbots, including Meta’s BlenderBot3, released earlier this month.
After the 2020 pandemic bump, we expect monthly digital gaming usage will see minimal growth through the end of our forecast (1.1% in 2022 and 0.9% in 2023). We expect the number of US digital gamers to reach 179.6 million by 2022. Other gaming platforms that serve as a happy medium between convenient mobile gaming technology and more advanced console systems are laptop and PC devices. Overall, there will be more than 29.6 million monthly US esports viewers in 2022, amounting to over 49.9% of all GVC viewers. But this growth won’t last too long, as monthly digital gamers are expected to increase by just 1.1% in 2022.
