Enter Brownie Wise, the saleswoman credited with pioneering the “Tupperware effect” of teaching women how to flog to their friends by hosting themed gatherings in their living rooms. Ironically enough, in the interim Tupperware also become the product of another modern network effect, a meme stock, or a highly speculative online investment. Tupperware has about a quarter of the active salesforce it did at the end of 2012, the same year Facebook bought Instagram.
