However, the four Biden appellate nominees already faced tough odds of confirmation, with some, like 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals nominee Adeel Mangi, facing opposition among Democrats as well. The Senate deal puts Biden in a position to potentially beat Trump’s record of number of district court judges confirmed. Still, Demand Justice, an organization that advocates for progressive judicial nominees, blasted the new deal for depriving the four Biden circuit nominees of floor votes. Those efforts were always going to face headwinds and got more arduous when Trump demanded that Senate Republicans blockade all pending Biden nominees for the bench. Since then, other judicial nominees have been able to clear pivotal votes because not enough Republicans were present to block them. Two of the missing Republicans, Sens. CNN —Republicans flipped the Senate, but Democratic candidates often outran the top of the ticket, winning at least four battleground states that Vice President Kamala Harris lost. Harris lost all seven swing states to President-elect Donald Trump, while her party’s Senate candidates narrowly held Wisconsin, Nevada and open seats in Michigan and Arizona. In some races, the differences between the Senate candidates’ and Harris’ performances were more pronounced among subsections of the Democratic coalition. While Trump won independents by 2 points, Rosen won the group by 6. But holding the White House and Senate majority for another few weeks doesn’t guarantee Democrats will have an easy time processing the final batch of Biden appointees. “There is a push across the board from the White House and the Senate for Democrats to show up and do the job they were elected to do,” a senior White House official, asking for anonymity to speak candidly, told CNN. The White House official pointed to how Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn on Saturday promised “no weekends, no breaks” to confirm Trump’s Cabinet once he took power, and the White House official encouraged Democrats to show that dedication to judges in Biden’s final stretch. “Regardless of party, the American people expect their leaders to prioritize the rule of law and ensuring the criminal justice system can function effectively in every stated,” said White House spokesperson Andrew Bates. There are around nine – depending on what the calendar will allow – other Biden nominees who could still come through committee.

WASHINGTON — Americans are poised to elect a new Congress, with control of both chambers at stake as every seat in the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate is up before voters on Election Day. Republicans favored to win the SenateIn the Senate, Democrats currently have a 51-49 edge, but Republicans are favored to capture the majority. They’re all but guaranteed to win an open seat in ruby-red West Virginia, with Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Joe Manchin retiring. If Harris wins, Republicans will need one more seat in addition to West Virginia to capture the Senate. Voting has now wrapped up in all seven swing states and most others. But no swing states have been called, and the race will hinge on their results. Bomb threats roiled polling places in swing states, including Georgia, Arizona and Michigan. Though the election is by no means over, Mr. Trump is showing strength, winning states like Texas and Florida easily. Democrats will have to run the tables in the Republican states of Ohio and Montana to maintain their one-seat control of the Senate.

Former hedge funder David McCormick has narrowed the gap in a closely watched US Senate race. McCormick's Wall Street allies are among the biggest donors to a pro-McCormick super PAC. Jeff Yass is among the big names making a final splash before Election Day. VCs are lobbing cash at the presidential election and key congressional races, FEC data shows. This election cycle, investors at the top venture capital firms have plowed tens of millions of dollars into the election, both backing their favored political candidates and just cannily promoting commercial interests. (The filing deadline for Q3 data for quarterly filing entities was October 15, but this data isn't yet readily available in full online.) Business Insider selected 10 venture capital firms to focus on, taking into account fund size and cultural and industry significance. Sequoia Capital's Doug Leone is one of VC's most prolific GOP-aligned political donors, giving his almost $3.8 million to the National Republican Committee and other causes.
