Jimmy Carter has accomplished something no other former U.S. president has — he notched a 100th birthday. Carter, who served one term in the White House, hit the milestone Tuesday at his home in Plains, Georgia, where he has been receiving hospice care for the last 19 months. “I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris,” Carter said, his grandson, Jason Carter, told The Atlanta Constitution. A former peanut farmer and Navy veteran, Carter has lived nearly six years longer than another age-defying former president, George H.W. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, dance at the annual Congressional Christmas Ball at the White House in 1978.

Carter, who has been in hospice care since February 2023, is the oldest president in American history. Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, said at tge Democratic National Convention in August that his PawPaw was “holding on” for the November election. Biden was one of the first senators to endorse Carter’s 1976 presidential campaign. Biden and first lady Dr. Jill Biden traveled to Plains, Georgia, to visit the Carters on the 100th day of Biden’s presidency in 2021. “We sat and talked about the old days,” Biden told reporters after the visit, calling the Carters “old friends.”

James Earl Carter, Jr., more commonly known as Jimmy Carter, served as the 39th U.S. president from 1977 to 1981. In 2019, Carter told People Magazine that he never expected to live as long as he has: "It's hard to live until you're 95 years old." In February of 2023, President Carter entered home hospice care after several hospital stays over the years, following his cancer diagnosis in 2015. He and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who died in November 2023 at 96 years old, kept each other going. Their love story began when the two met at Plains United Methodist Church in their hometown of Plains, Georgia, Mr. Carter told The Washington Post.

Trump won the presidency in 2016 by stunning Democrat Hillary Clinton to win all three states by a combined margin of about 80,000 votes. But, as in other states, Democrats have been concerned about the risk of depressed turnout and some gains for Trump among Black voters in Philadelphia. Eight years later, the two states split again, when Roosevelt comfortably won Pennsylvania and Michigan narrowly went to Republican Wendell Willkie. This trio of states has arguably become the most consistent tipping point in American politics. In the nine elections since 1920 when they split their vote, the candidate who carried two of these three states won seven times.

CNN —Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh has been killed in the Iranian capital Tehran, according to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps and Hamas on Wednesday. The new Iranian president was sworn in on Tuesday and Hamas released pictures the same day of Haniyeh meeting Iranian officials in Tehran. Haniyeh would be the second Hamas senior leader to be killed since the beginning of Israel’s war in Gaza. As Hamas grew in power, Haniyeh rose through the ranks – being appointed part of a secret “collective leadership” in 2004. In April, Israeli airstrikes killed three of Haniyeh’s sons and four of his grandchildren, according to Hamas.
