However, one exchange-traded fund (ETF) has done just that, beating the S & P 500 index for five consecutive years. The JPMorgan US Research Enhanced Index Equity ETF has beaten the benchmark every year since 2019 and is also outperforming in 2024. However, it wasn't until 2018 that JPMorgan decided to marry this time-tested strategy with the increasingly popular ETF structure. For instance, JPMorgan's ETF is overweight Microsoft shares by 45 basis points compared to the weighting for the stock in the iShares Core S & P 500 ETF. This extensive coverage forms the backbone of the REI strategy, according to Grassi.

This is not the first time Alito has found himself in hot water over displaying a controversial flag on his property. The upside-down flag, a signal of distress, was adopted by Trump supporters who believed the false claim that the election had been stolen. (Alito said his wife had raised the upside-down flag in response to a disagreement with a neighbor. The discovery also comes at a time when the Supreme Court will be making a decision about Trump’s claims of sweeping presidential immunity, his get-out-of-jail-free card for the federal cases he faces. “The notion that the Supreme Court can be trusted to be an arbiter above partisan politics has suffered major blows in recent years.

But it shelved the plan, citing “noticeable” falls in pasta prices. Pasta prices dipped in May compared with April, though provisional official data released Wednesday showed that they ticked up again this month. Broader food price inflation, albeit slowing, is still high in Italy and elsewhere. Concerns have grown that retailers and food producers are deliberately keeping prices high to boost profit margins — claims they strenuously deny. That meant they had “locked in higher prices” for longer, he told a gathering of central bankers in Portugal.

Batman wins EU trademark dispute with Italian designer

REUTERS/Henry RomeroBRUSSELS, June 7 (Reuters) - Caped crusader Batman won a trademark fight with an Italian clothing retailer on Wednesday after Europe's second-top court sided with an EU patent office, ruling that the Batman logo is distinctive enough to warrant its EU trademark. The Italian company had asked EUIPO to annul the trademark for clothing and carnival items, saying that it lacked a distinctive character. Judges backed the EU trademark body. The Italian company can appeal to the EU Court of Justice, Europe's highest, on points of law. Rome/London CNN —Italy’s government convened crisis talks Thursday to investigate the reasons behind a surge in prices for pasta, one of the country’s most beloved and culturally important foods. Pasta inflation moderated a bit in April but prices were still up 16.5% over 12 months. Pasta prices have soared despite the price of wheat — the main ingredient — falling in recent months. The price of durum wheat — a type of wheat popular among Italian pasta-makers — has fallen 30% since May 2022. Making pasta only requires mixing water with the wheat, the group said, giving “little justification” for the huge increase in retail prices.
The Euronext (ENX.PA) chief executive’s decision to withdraw a preliminary 5.5 billion euro offer for investment platform Allfunds (ALLFG.AS) may turn out to be a lucky escape. An alternative deal will however require the 7.5 billion euro exchange operator to build a more valuable M&A currency first. The funds platform could have helped investors that already buy shares on Euronext to access a broader range of products. Meanwhile, Allfunds’ shares may fall if it continues to struggle. Euronext shares were up over 4% at 72.34 euros, as of 0953 GMT.
ROME, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) (BMPS.MI) is set to rejoin the FTSE MIB blue-chip index on the Milan stock exchange after six years of absence, two market sources told Reuters on Monday. MPS is currently in the FTSE MID Cap index and left the blue-chip index in March 2017. At 1536 GMT, its stock was up by more than 3.6%, outperforming Italy's bank sub-index (.FTITLMS3010). One trader said MPS' stock has benefited from very high liquidity following November's 2.5-billion-euro new share issue, making it eligible for blue-chip status. At the same time, Italian cement maker Buzzi Unicem (BZU.MI) is "very likely" to be downgraded from the blue-chip to the FTSE MID Cap index, the trader said.

With an overall capitalisation of around 680 billion euros ($726.3 billion), the value of companies listed on Milan's bourse lags far behind European Union peers. "We aim to present a bill in parliament by April to strengthen Milan's ability to encourage listing," Treasury junior minister Federico Freni told Reuters. To boost initial public offerings (IPOs) in Milan, the draft bill includes measures to simplify the listing process, which current rules companies say make it costly and cumbersome to provide adequate risk disclosure for investors. "SME qualification is currently envisaged when capitalisation does not exceed 500 million euros: such a threshold would be increased to 1 billion euros," the draft showed. This would make only the institution liable while shielding its employees including top executives, a move the Treasury believes could speed up the listing process.

LONDON, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Euronext will not mimic rivals by shifting critical services to outside cloud computers given regulatory concerns, the pan-European exchange's chief executive Stephane Boujnah said. London Stock Exchange Group, CME and Nasdaq have all announced partnerships with cloud computing giants like Alphabet, Amazon and Microsoft, with Deutsche Boerse joining them on Thursday in a "strategic partnership" with Google. Euronext only uses a cloud provider for storing historical data, he said. "We analyse very carefully the dependency on certain providers," Boujnah said as Euronext reported full year earnings. Euronext said it has increased its 2024 annual pre-tax savings related to integrating Borsa Italiana by 15 million euros to 115 million, with around 70 million of this achieved by the end of 2023 as implementation costs remain unchanged.
MILAN, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Italy's antitrust authority said on Monday it had searched the offices of several oil companies, including Italy's Eni (ENI.MI) and Exxon Mobil Corp's (XOM.N) ESSO Italiana unit, over alleged fuel price violations. The authority, which carried out the inspections with the help of Italy's tax police, said it was probing irregularities concerning prices being charged at the pump which were higher than those advertised, as well as failures in advertising fuel prices. Eni, Esso, Italia Petroli, Kuwait Petroleum Italia and Tamoil allegedly failed to adopt appropriate measures "to prevent and counteract this unlawful conduct to the detriment of consumers", the competition watchdog said in a statement. Fuel prices have taken centre stage in Italy after Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's executive dropped a costly reduction in excise duties introduced by the previous government when the price of petrol exceeded 2 euros per litre. snapshotFEW NEWCOMERSOn the plus side, four companies joined the main Euronext Milan market this year, including truckmaker Iveco (IVG.MI), which was the result of a spin off. The situation is healthier for Euronext Growth Milan itself, a market dedicated to small and medium-sized enterprises with minimum access requirements. Over the past 20 years, the main market has lost 268 listed companies and gained only 185, according to Intermonte research published in March. In contrast, the less regulated SME market has attracted 263 listed companies and seen 68 delistings. CULTURAL ISSUEThe fact that there are relatively few listed companies has its roots in the country's history, said Andrea Beltratti, professor of Political Economy at Milan's Bocconi University.
MILAN, Oct 25 (Reuters) - The Della Valle family failed to reach the 90% ownership threshold needed to proceed with a proposed delisting of luxury shoemaker Tod's (TOD.MI) under their buyout bid, a Borsa Italiana filing showed on Tuesday. On the last day available for the offer, investors tendered Tod's shares accounting for a total of 4,134,358 shares. According to Reuters calculations, the Della Valles, who own 64.5% of the company, needed to gain the acceptance of 5,144,373 shares to reach the 90% threshold in their effort to take the company private. The Della Valle family has stated it could delist Tod's by merging it into DeVa Finance within six months of the closing of the takeover bid. Tod's shares ended down 2.4% at 39.6 euros, underperforming Milan's all-share index (.FTITLMS) which ended up 1.5%.
Sebastian Galassi, 26, was a delivery rider in Florence, Italy, for the Spanish startup Glovo. He died on October 1 after his moped collided with a Land Rover SUV while on shift for Glovo. His family discovered an email the next day firing him, which Glovo claims was a mistake. The following day, Galassi's family discovered an email informing Galassi that he had been fired from the company "for non-compliance with the terms and conditions" of his role. A Glovo spokesperson told Insider: "We deeply regret the death of the delivery driver Sebastian Galassi as a result of a traffic accident in Florence, Italy.
The dramatic moment when a NASA spacecraft intentionally flew head-on into an asteroid was captured by a tiny, Italian-built satellite that was designed to survey the aftermath of the cosmic collision. Photos of NASA's DART probe slamming into a small and harmless asteroid known as Dimorphos were released Tuesday by L'Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, the Italian Space Agency. The images show Dimorphos and the larger, brighter asteroid that it orbits right before and immediately after the impact. The intentional crash, which occurred Monday, was the world's first test of a planetary defense strategy that involves "nudging" an asteroid to permanently alter its trajectory. Dimorphos is located about 6.8 million miles from Earth and does not pose any threat to the planet.
