According to a report from Indonesian state media, the country's Ministry of Industry met with representatives from Apple on Thursday regarding its proposal to invest $100 million over two years. "From the government's perspective, of course, we want this investment to be larger," industry ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arif told state media on Thursday. An Italian surfer died last week after being impaled by a swordfish while surfing in Indonesia, local media reported. Fabio Giulivi, the mayor of Manfrini’s hometown, Venaria, said the surfer was “tragically” taken from her loved ones in the prime of her life. “The news of her death has left us shocked and makes us feel powerless in the face of the tragedy that took her life so prematurely,” Giulivi wrote in an Instagram post. In August, an Australian man died after he hit his head on a reef while surfing in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Scores of people have been killed in Israeli strikes in northern Gaza this weekend, according to local officials, with the bloodshed in the enclave and continued attacks in Lebanon dimming hopes that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar might breathe new life into cease-fire talks that have been stalled for months.
