Nearly 100 former national security officials signed a letter criticizing President-elect Donald Trump's decision to nominate former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence and called for closed-door Senate hearings to review any government information about her. In the letter obtained by NBC News, the officials urged the Senate to "carefully evaluate" whether Gabbard is "equipped" for the position, which requires Senate confirmation. "Following her trip to Syria, for example, Ms. Gabbard aligned herself with Russian and Syrian officials." The former officials also proposed closed-door hearings that would allow lawmakers to fully review any government files on Gabbard, a former Democratic House member from Hawaii. Reached for comment, a spokesperson for Gabbard on the Trump transition team slammed the letter, as well as the signers' credentials.

15 LSU its second consecutive double-digit loss Saturday night, effectively knocking the Tigers out of the College Football Playoff race with a 42-13 blowout in Baton Rouge. When Milroe plays how he did on Saturday — confident, decisive, efficient — Alabama is incredibly hard to defend. — Kennington Smith IIISEC race remains jumbledThe simplest immediate consequence of Saturday night’s blowout in Death Valley is that LSU’s SEC championship hopes have taken a major hit with the Tigers’ second SEC loss, while Alabama’s aspirations remain alive. AdvertisementBut it’s also easy to see a scenario where six teams tie for second with two SEC losses: LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, Tennessee and the loser of Texas/Texas A&M. Back in September, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers ran for 88 yards and two scores in a game LSU was lucky to escape unscathed.

This week, the numbers are screaming to go with Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, one of eight quarterbacks averaging more than 300 passing yards a game. This week, I’m riding with Sampson to lead all rushers in yards because he’s facing a Mississippi State defense that’s ranked 124th against the run. Dart’s 515 passing yards and six TDs last week against Arkansas, with a breakout performance from Jordan Watkins, provide more reason for me to stick with my midseason prediction. AdvertisementWeek 10 report cardAs mentioned before, my big victory last week was predicting Dart would lead all QBs in passing yards. I had Clemson covering a 10.5-point spread against Louisville with Cade Klubnik (250-plus passing yards, two TDs) and Phil Mafah (100-plus rushing yards, two TDs) doing work.

CNN —Louisiana State University women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey ripped the Washington Post on Saturday over what she describes as a “hit piece” in which she has threatened legal action if published. “I’ve hired the best defamation law firm in the country, and I will sue the Washington Post if they publish a false story about me. A Washington Post spokesperson declined to comment on Mulkey’s remarks. “Former players have told me that the Washington Post has contacted them and offered to let them be anonymous in a story if they’ll say negative things about me. The Washington Post has called former disgruntled players to get negative quotes to include in their story.

Arms Race: What Travelers Can Expect in 2024 At the start of what promises to be a very busy year, we look ahead at what you’re likely to encounter. With 2023 in the rearview mirror, we look ahead at what travelers will face in 2024. At United Airlines, for example, smarter software can offer rebooking options and issue food and lodging vouchers when a flight is canceled, rather than just rebooking a flight. United Airlines has suspended its flights indefinitely, said Josh Freed, a United spokesman. This year, travelers are expected to choose faraway places and board small ships, according to Virtuoso, the consortium of luxury travel agencies.

The fees are partially used by the companies to run loyalty programs that award points to cardholders that can be redeemed for things like flights and hotels. The act proposes allowing retailers to choose a cheaper system that would reduce the fees. “This has been one of the biggest lobbying battles of all time, pitting two huge industries, retail versus banking,” said Brian Kelly, the founder of the Points Guy, a travel site that helps users maximize reward points and opposes the act. Does the legislation threaten your points? Not immediately, said Leigh Rowan of Savanti Travel, a personal travel management service.

The latest estimates from the California High-Speed Rail Authority suggest it will cost between $88 billion and $128 billion to complete the entire system from LA to San Francisco. The project has spent $9.8 billion so far, according to Brian Kelly, CEO of the California High-Speed Rail Authority. "One of the biggest hurdles clearly is funding," said Toks Omishakin, secretary of the California State Transportation Agency. The 2021 bipartisan infrastructure bill did allocate $66 billion for rail, but much of that will go to Amtrak and money was not specifically set aside for California's high-speed rail. And then this is the ultimate high-speed rail."
Why Monumental Cream Puff Towers Are on the Rise

THE CHEF MOST often credited with inventing the croquembouche, the French-born confection that towers haughtily over any table it graces, was, unsurprisingly, an architecture enthusiast. He’d spend his afternoons in the national library across the street, mesmerized by images of architectural marvels. But it was the croquembouche in particular — a conical tower typically rising several feet high and constructed out of cream puffs (a.k.a. choux à la crème) bound together with caramel — that became a staple of French wedding banquets and, eventually, his legacy. Its name translated as “crunch in the mouth,” the pastry, when made properly, should deliver a gratifying crackle with every bite.
Kelly worked on disasters like the BP oil spill and lead drinking-water crisis in Flint, Michigan. I'm one of the 220 emergency responders that the EPA has across the country who's on call when there's a major oil spill or chemical fire, like after the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. There are also smaller events, like fires at oil refineries and paper mills and hazardous waste left behind by mines. EPA on-scene coordinators sample air, water, and buildings for toxic chemicals to determine public-health risks. Brian KellyThe EPA issues an enforcement order to the companies responsible for a spill or fire to take over the cleanup.
