Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey said the company doesn't expect an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's to hurt the beverage company's sales. McDonald's is Coke's largest restaurant customer, and the two companies' symbiotic relationship has existed for nearly seven decades. On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that it has linked an E. coli outbreak in 10 states to McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers. Both ingredients are unique to the Quarter Pounder burgers, although cooking the patty at the correct internal temperature should kill the bacteria. The outbreak comes as consumers broadly have been spending less at restaurants, hurting both McDonald's and Coke.

CNN —American gymnast Jordan Chiles’ legal team has submitted a new application in the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland over the decision that led to her losing an Olympic bronze medal, pointing toward new video evidence that Chiles’ lawyers say proves her case. Chiles’ attorneys say that a documentary crew has video and audio recordings to prove Chiles’ case. Romanian gymnast Ana Bǎrbosu appeared to have locked up the bronze medal after Chiles finished her routine. That decision led to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) handing the bronze medal to Bǎrbosu. Chiles’ latest filing follows an earlier filing, from September 16, where Chiles opted to appeal CAS’ decision to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland.

In her first public comments since being stripped of a bronze medal she appeared to have rightfully won, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles on Wednesday said she’s still seeking “justice” and “peace." Chiles, speaking at the Forbes Power Women’s Summit, said the situation regarding the disputed medal has taken a severe emotional toll. “At this rate, it’s not really about the medal, it’s about my peace and my justice,” the 23-year-old said at the conference. Once that scoring error was corrected, Chiles vaulted into third place and the bronze medal. "No matter what, I'm always going to have those accolades with me and I'm going to continue to shine bright in the ways that I'm going to shine bright, because the star is never going to get dimmed."

PARIS — Jordan Chiles is a rarity in Olympic history: an athlete forced to return their medal for reasons other than a doping violation. On Sunday, the International Olympic Committee said that the appeal shouldn’t have been allowed, meaning she will have to return her third-place prize. In 2017, the Russian Olympic Committee said that none of the 18 athletes stripped of their medals because of doping violations had returned the physical awards. After Chiles’ bronze bumped Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu off the podium, the country’s Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said he’d refuse to attend the closing ceremony in protest. “Given these circumstances, we are committed to pursuing an appeal to help Jordan Chiles receive the recognition she deserves,” the U.S. committee said.

Los Angeles has already hosted two Olympics, in 1932 and 1984, leaving enough infrastructure in place that there won’t be any new permanent venues built for 2028, and athletes will be housed at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), instead of a purpose-built Olympic Village. PARIS — Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif has filed a legal complaint in France for online harassment after a rain of criticism and false claims about her sex during the Paris Olympics, her lawyer said Sunday. The complaint was filed Friday with a special unit in the Paris prosecutor’s office for combating online hate speech, alleging “aggravated cyber-harassment” targeting Khelif, lawyer Nabil Boudi said. In a statement, he described it as a “misogynist, racist and sexist campaign” against the boxer. As is common in French law, the complaint doesn’t name an alleged perpetrator but leaves it to investigators to determine who could be at fault. False claims that Khelif was transgender or a man erupted online, and the International Olympic Committee defended her and denounced those peddling misinformation.

PARIS — Everywhere you looked at the 2024 Paris Games, Americans dominated. On the final day of the Games, China is leading Team USA in the medal table, with 39 golds to America’s 38. Its two golds here included the 4x100-meter medley, the first time in Olympic history that anyone had beaten the U.S. Though Russia, a longtime dominant force in the sport, was excluded from these Games, China still achieved a score that far outstripped any competitors. PARIS — U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles must return her bronze medal in the floor exercise, the International Olympic Committee said Sunday, upholding findings that a coach's protest that got her on the podium shouldn't have been allowed. Romanian Ana Bărbosu, 18, will now be the floor exercise bronze medalist. "We are devastated by the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling regarding women’s floor exercise," according to a statement issued by USA Gymnastics on Saturday night. "The inquiry into the Difficulty Value of Jordan Chiles’ floor exercise routine was filed in good faith and, we believed, in accordance with FIG rules to ensure accurate scoring."
