In this gilded echo chamber, Mr. Trump enjoys unwavering devotion — and collects the staggering price of admission. During the 2014-15 season — the last before Mr. Trump officially entered politics — The Times counted 52 fund-raiser events at Mar-a-Lago. More than two dozen midterm candidates had already held fund-raisers on the property when Mr. Trump made that statement. But that changed when Letitia James, the New York attorney general, sued Mr. Trump for exaggerating the value of his properties. And, unlike when Mr. Trump was president, “he was there a lot,” Mr. Rustmann said.

Outside of his MAGA movement, though, the social media site is struggling to find a wider audience. It’s a critical milestone for the social media site as well as for Trump, providing a path for the former real estate tycoon’s return to Wall Street. Some conservatives, looking for an alternative to mainstream social media sites seen as hostile to their point of view, initially seemed eager to embrace Truth Social. Johnson’s Trump began delivering laughs by answering questions from random South Carolina voters, including one that asked “Trump” what made him think he could defeat President Joe Biden. Haley then raised the issue of Trump’s mental fitness, asking, “Are you doing OK, Donald? Then there is Haley’s demand that Trump debate her, a matter which in my view is not unrelated to the issue of Trump’s mental acuity. Trump’s refusal to debate during the GOP primaries so far has deprived the nation that opportunity. It’s a far lesser transgression, but Trump’s refusal to debate Haley should be viewed by all Americans through that prism.

Throughout her career, the South Carolina-born daughter of Indian immigrants has generally called out acts of individual prejudice and the people responsible. But Haley, now a Republican presidential candidate, has avoided denouncing society or groups of people as racist. Haley, who was Trump's U.N. ambassador, has described facing prejudice in her upbringing in rural Bamberg. “My parents never wanted us to think we lived in a racist country,” Haley told reporters recently. When asked by reporters whether Trump's criticisms of her are racist, Haley has instead portrayed him as “desperate to stop our momentum," using any means necessary to attack his opponents.

Personally, I would have loved to see President Trump take him as his running mate for vice president.”And Mr. Trump himself complimented Mr. Ramaswamy this week, spurring questions about whether the Republican presidential front-runner would consider Mr. Ramaswamy to run as No. On Tuesday, the former president told the conservative commentator Glenn Beck that he thought Mr. Ramaswamy was “a very, very intelligent person.”“He’s got good energy,” Mr. Trump continued. “He could be some form of something.”But Mr. Ramaswamy, who has said repeatedly that he is not running to be second in command, reiterated that stance on Saturday. “I think President Trump and I share this in common: Neither of us would do well in a No. While Mr. Trump has continued to invoke the 2020 election and the indictments he faces, Mr. Ramaswamy calls for a forward-thinking vision of the United States as a “nation in our ascent” with revived patriotism under a drastically altered executive branch.

Fox has ideology, of course (which has cycled through different flavors of conservatism over the decades), but it also has an aesthetic. Fox News is designed to look like it is broadcasting from the top of the world; “Tucker on Twitter” looks not unlike something livestreamed after the apocalypse. Carlson could be different; Fox News has yet to recover in the prime-time ratings from his sudden departure. But Carlson, for all his anti-elite posturing, is wholly a creature of legacy TV, having hosted shows on Fox, CNN and MSNBC. They say you’re wrong, you’re crazy, you’re a racist.

CNN —House Speaker Kevin McCarthy helped secure a debt limit deal – now he has to secure its passage in the House, with little room for error and a looming threat to his speakership. In a win for McCarthy, a key Republican said he expects to support a rule to set parameters for debate. The powerful House Rules Committee must still vote to adopt the rule, but with that anticipated support, it is now on track to do so — a hurdle that must be cleared before the bill can come to the House floor for a final vote. If he did not support the rule, the debt limit bill may have been unable to advance to the House floor. Roy and Norman have both emerged as leading critics of the bipartisan debt limit bill.

DeSantis said Trump is running from the "left" as the Fla. governor has now entered the 2024 race. In a range of interviews, DeSantis sought to assert himself as the true conservative in the primary. Ron DeSantis of Florida on Thursday wasted little time going after former President Donald Trump after announcing his White House run, accusing the ex-commander-in-chief of "going left" on fiscal and cultural issues. Despite DeSantis' appeal among many conservatives looking to move past the Trump era, the former president remains the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination. As of May 27, the national polling average on FiveThirtyEight had Trump ahead of DeSantis 53.9%-20.4%.
Misconduct by senior leadership was often ignored or glossed over, and choas led to high turnover. But behind the scenes, some staff members say the organization has been wracked with internal turmoil, ineffective leadership, and deep layoffs. Many sources said allegations of misconduct by senior leadership seemed to be ignored or glossed over, and a chaotic environment led to high turnover. The following day, Color of Change eliminated another 12 positions, and again, many of them were part of the union. Elon Musk announced the hire of Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter Friday. Some conservatives are upset over her ties to the World Economic Forum, where she chairs a committee. Liberal Twitter users have pointed out that she follows and likes tweets from prominent conservatives. Some high-profile Twitter conservatives like "Catturd" also chimed in on Friday, taking issue with Yaccarino and claiming she is "deeply infected with the woke mind virus." Left-leaning Twitter users pointed out a list of conservative accounts Yaccarino follows and likes tweets, from including Catturd, Florida Gov.
Marjorie Taylor Greene said "everyone" she talks to is shunning Fox News after Tucker Carlson's exit. They have deleted Fox News on their phones and canceled their Fox Nation subscriptions, she said. Fox Corporation stock fell as much as 5% on Monday after Carlson's shock departure was announced. Fox News said on Monday that the network and Carlson, who was their top-rated host, had "agreed to part ways." "That's what they think they're doing to Tucker Carlson.

Tucker Carlson's dismissal signals a new realignment in conservative media. Nobody at Fox "was as connected to the MAGA base as Tucker Carlson," one ex-Trump official said. Whatever the reason, Carlson's dismissal signals a new realignment in conservative media. Last month, Tucker Carlson Tonight was the top-rated program among all news channels with 3.25 million viewers including 421,000 viewers in the coveted age 25-54 demographic. His previous work includes the 2022 profile of Carlson, The Tucker Carlson Origin Story.
In the hours following Carlson’s abrupt dismissal from the right-wing channel, a number of explanations have emerged — all with plausibility. One veteran television news executive told me that they believed the decision came down to a straightforward calculation by the Murdochs: Risk versus reward. It is pretty much enshrined as a law of physics in the universe of right-wing media that whoever the Murdochs put in prime time will rate. All that said, Carlson will test the hypothesis that Fox News as a brand trumps any single personality. Carlson is a force unlike any other in right-wing media and politics.
Tucker Carlson’s departure won’t change Fox News

But if history is any guide, there’s one thing we can count on: Cutting Tucker Carlson loose is not a sign that Fox is ready to change its ways. He regularly brought fringe, racist talking points such as the “great replacement” conspiracy theory into the mainstream. The content on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” made “The O’Reilly Factor” look like “Leave It to Beaver.”That strategy wasn’t a new one for Fox. “There will be a new Tucker Carlson, and it’s a good bet he or she will be even worse,” wrote David A. Graham in The Atlantic. Tucker Carlson, left, and former President Donald Trump, talk while watching golf.
Ex-Fox News hosts Glenn Beck and Megyn Kelly trashed the network over Tucker Carlson's ousting. "To me, this is a suicidal move for Fox," Beck said after Fox News cut ties with Carlson. Kelly said, "This is a terrible move by Fox, and it's a great thing for Tucker Carlson." Ex-Fox News hosts Glenn Beck and Megyn Kelly trashed the network for suddenly cutting ties with its primetime star Tucker Carlson, slamming it as a "suicidal" and "terrible" move. "This is a terrible move by Fox, and it's a great thing for Tucker Carlson," Kelly said on Monday's episode of her SiriusXM program "The Megyn Kelly Show."
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez celebrated Tucker Carlson's bombshell ousting at Fox News. "Couldn't have happened to a better guy," Ocasio-Cortez said in a video posted to her Instagram. Still, Ocasio-Cortez said she is wary that Carlson will bounce back. Fox News announced it had parted ways with Carlson, the network's top host, on Monday. Several prominent right-wing personalities, such as Glenn Beck and Matt Walsh, voiced their displeasure and shock about Carlson's firing on Twitter on Monday.

To the Editor:Re “Fox News Ousts Carlson, a Voice of the Far Right” (front page, April 25):Tucker Carlson’s firing by Fox News is being covered as big news (everywhere except, of course, at Fox News). The coverage includes speculation about whether the firing heralds a change of direction for Fox News away from peddling sensationalist conspiracy theories to its primary audience. Fox News’s business model involves presenting sensationalist, conspiracy-laden fodder to appeal to America’s angry, frightened right wing. This has been so whether the characters have been named Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly or Tucker Carlson. The actor Tucker Carlson has been fired by Fox News, but nobody should assume that Fox News has abandoned the character that he played on TV.
Tucker Carlson is joining a long list of nightly news hosts who once commanded huge audiences before quick departures from their networks. 71 in Apple’s top podcast charts for news shows in the United States, according to Chartable, a podcast insights company. The site had 1.2 million visits last month, according to SimilarWeb, a web traffic monitoring company. That included The Blaze, a news and video website that had 12 million visits last month, according to SimilarWeb. 13 in Apple’s top podcast charts for news shows in the United States, according to Chartable.
Tucker Carlson and Fox News parted ways Monday. "I think that'll kill Fox," Glenn Beck said during his streaming show . "Wherever Tucker Carlson goes, America will follow!" The lawsuit also provides a screenshot from Stein's account showing that he was blocked. Stein's lawyer requests that he immediately be unblocked from the @AOC Twitter account, Ocasio-Cortez' personal account, which the suit describes as her de facto "official" account. "Mr. Stein desires to engage in political discussions in the robust public forum that is Ms. Cortez's huge Twitter account," Stein's lawyer wrote. Following the harassment from Stein, Ocasio-Cortez called the incident "deeply disgusting" and said Stein was "seeking extremist fame." However, she said in 2019 that she would not stop blocking people on her personal @AOC account and she stood by her decision.
The $20 million pair of Super Bowl ads are part of a larger, $100 million campaign launched last spring, The Washington Post reported. "Something tells me Jesus would *not* spend millions of dollars on Super Bowl ads to make fascism look benign," Congresswoman Alexandria Ocassio-Cortez wrote in a tweet Sunday. "With the money the 'He Gets Us' people spent on their right-wing Jesus ads, they could permanently house 1,563 people experiencing homelessness," Democratic strategist Sawyer Hackett chimed in. —Allie Beth Stuckey (@conservmillen) February 12, 2023The backlash extends beyond the two commercials that ran during the Super Bowl, and into the campaign more broadly. In the days following the Super Bowl, the campaign has responded to some of the backlash.
Glenn Beck, Tucker Carlson, and others initially treated the case as a part of a Biden war on journalism. An October report in Rolling Stone said that an indictment was being prepared but could not say why, noting only that "classified information" had been found on one of his laptops. Instead of updating his audience on the case, Beck released a video Thursday on how to prepare for a "HUGE cyber attack." Carlson did not address the development in Meek's case on his Wednesday broadcast. That report came after the department issued new guidance generally prohibiting investigators from targeting reporters over classified information gathered as part of their job.
Why Davos conspiracy theories have gone mainstream
  + stars: | 2023-01-18 | by ( Oliver Darcy | )   time to read: +4 min
New York CNN —The World Economic Forum’s annual meeting at Davos has long been a lightning rod for conspiracy theories. In the past, however, these farcical conspiracy theories have largely been confined to the fringe corners of the internet — places like Infowars. The radical ideas promoted by the likes of Jones have gone mainstream, having been popularized by some of the most influential personalities in right-wing media. The Associated Press’ Sophia Tulp reported this week that use of “The Great Reset” has been on a steady rise at Fox News. The danger of conspiracy theories has not been lost on attendees at Davos.
