Montana Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy struggled in a new interview to give a clear explanation about the circumstances surrounding an incident in a national park in 2015 that led to him being treated for a gunshot wound and receiving a fine. All accounts agree that, as first reported by the Washington Post this spring, Sheehy went to the hospital after his gun went off in Glacier National Park in 2015 (firing a weapon is illegal in a national park). The ranger said Sheehy told him he had accidentally shot himself in the arm, and Sheehy then went to the hospital for treatment. A National Geographic documentary crew may have found partial remains of the foot of Andrew “Sandy” Irvine, the famed mountaineer who disappeared on Mount Everest 100 years ago. The climbers were trekking Everest in late September when they spotted a disembodied foot inside of a boot that appeared perfectly preserved yet undeniably old. It is not known whether the pair ever reached the summit — an important Everest mystery among climbers and historians alike. Fisher’s documentary team, which included photographer and director Jimmy Chin and filmmaker Erich Roepke, came across the boot while exploring the Central Rongbuk Glacier on the northern side of Mount Everest. “We haven’t done DNA tests yet, so we can’t 100% say with certainty that this is indeed Irvine’s boot, but like I said, the nameplate is perfectly stitched on there.

Initial investigations suggested the group of Russian mountaineers died “as a result of falling down a slope,” the embassy said. Dhaulagiri – which translates from Sanskrit to mean “White Mountain” - is the world’s seventh-highest peak, standing 8,167 meters (26,795 ft) above sea level, in the Himalayas in central Nepal. The fatality rate of Dhaulagiri is slightly more than 16%, making it one of the most dangerous mountains to climb. A section of a trail in Montana’s Glacier National Park was closed Thursday after a hiker was injured by a bear, park officials said. The injuries to the hiker, a 35-year-old man, were not life-threatening, the National Park Service said. The hiker was hurt Thursday morning after he and his group encountered a bear near the Grinnell Glacier Overlook trailhead, the park service said. Glacier National Park covers 1,583 square miles in northwest Montana. It was the 10th most-visited national park last year, according to data from the park service, which also manages other types of properties, including the Lincoln Memorial.
