(AP) — A Louisiana State University football player was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted second-degree murder after a shooting last week that wounded two people. Treyvion Antwan Holly, a freshman running back, faces three charges — attempted second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal use of a weapon on a public roadway, the Union Parish Sheriff said in a press release Thursday evening. Jordan Ramond Jones, 18, was charged with attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons. A 16-year-old boy was also charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal possession of handgun by a juvenile. A spokesperson for Louisiana State University could not immediately be reached for comment.

— Five Louisiana law enforcement officers were charged with state crimes ranging from negligent homicide to malfeasance Thursday in the deadly 2019 arrest of Ronald Greene. Others, including a Union Parish sheriff’s deputy and three other troopers, were charged with malfeasance and obstruction of justice. Louisiana State Police via APUnion Parish District Attorney John Belton submitted arrest warrants for all five of the indicted officers. And for the first time in the case, a medical expert deemed Greene’s death a homicide. Edwards has repeatedly said he did nothing to influence or hinder the Greene investigation and has described the troopers’ actions as both criminal and racist.

More than 20 people suffered injuries in Farmerville, Louisiana, when a tornado hit an apartment complex and a mobile home park, a police spokesperson told CNN. The relentless storm was not finished on Thursday. Additionally, the storm was forecast to unleash freezing rains across the region, glazing roadways with ice and prompting transportation officials to urge motorists to stay off the roads. A tornado struck New Iberia, Louisiana, on Wednesday, briefly trapping people in their homes, police and the National Weather Service Lake Charles said. The tornado touched down in the Southport subdivision area just before 11 a.m. An NWS spokesperson said a storm survey will be conducted to determine its strength. Earlier Wednesday, tornado watches had been issued for parts of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana — where two people, including a child, were killed when a storm tore through the area Tuesday. Thousands of people in Louisiana and Mississippi remain without power after Tuesday's storms. Other injuries were reported in Farmerville, Louisiana, and in Texas after a tornado struck the city of Grapevine.
