From the moment Paul Graham dropped his essay on "founder mode," people online analyzed it like a stone tablet found bearing the new commandment of startupdom. But there's one group that has been privately wrestling with "founder mode" since before it had a meme-able name: female founders. Four female founders told Business Insider that a stark double standard prevents them from operating their startups as their male counterparts do. Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd wrote on Instagram that she was "in founder mode for 10 years and got attacked for it every single day." But unlike female founders, he and Neumann, the WeWork founder, enjoy the luxury of being given second chances by investors.

That continues a trend from 2023, when generative AI companies raised $25.9 billion for the full year, up more than 200% from 2022. The average round for AI companies is 140% bigger this year compared with last, the data shows, while for non-AI companies the increase is only 10%. Most venture investors are bullish on the potential for generative AI to eventually create big returns at the application layer. John-David Lovelock, an analyst at Gartner and a 35-year veteran of the IT industry, sees a big opportunity for generative AI in the enterprise. Yet, in 2024, only 1% of the trillion dollars spent on software will be from businesses spending on generative AI products, he said.

Tesla said it will launch its "Full Self Driving" driver assistance product in Europe and China early next year. Tesla is yet to receive regulatory permission to launch its FSD product in Europe and China, but Musk in July said that he expects to get this clearance by the end of 2024. So-called Full Self Driving, or FSD, has been a key pillar of Musk's strategy to make Tesla a more AI-centric company and push toward self-driving technology. Despite the label on its product, FSD is not actually capable of making its vehicles fully autonomous. FSD is an upgrade to Tesla's Autopilot driver assistant, which is already available in Europe and China.

Brazil's telecommunications regulator threatened sanctions against Elon Musk's satellite internet firm Starlink, as a public confrontation with the billionaire escalates over the country's decision to block his social media company X. Last week, Brazil's supreme court ordered a nationwide suspension of X for not appointing a legal representative by a court-mandated deadline, in line with the country's laws. Anatel, Brazil's telecommunications regulator, has instructed internet providers to block access to X following the court order. Artur Coimbra, a commissioner at Anatel, told Reuters that Starlink is the only company that has told the regulator that it would not comply with the court decision. CNBC has reached out to Anatel and SpaceX, which runs Starlink, for comment.

A panel of Brazil's federal supreme court justices voted unanimously to uphold orders suspending the use of Elon Musk's social network X nationwide. X had earlier defied court requests to take down accounts or posts that it said violated Brazil's laws on political misinformation and hate speech online. The court also froze the financial assets of another Musk-led business, satellite internet service Starlink, in Brazil to ensure his social network would pay its fines. Brazil's telecoms regulator Anatel instructed internet service providers including Starlink to block access to X in the country until it complies with the court orders. However, some social media users in Brazil are moving to other social networks.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk listens to President Donald Trump during a meeting with business leaders in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington, Feb. 3, 2017. "They want to make Trump, Elon and people like them look like plutocrats," he said. "Elon Musk created the opportunity that Donald Trump took to unmask himself as rabidly anti-union, and he did that by praising Elon Musk's anti-union, union-busting perspective and endorsing the idea of illegally firing striking workers," he said. Harris, who is not related to Kamala Harris, said he views Musk's endorsement as a net negative. "No one views Elon Musk as a voice of the middle class," he said.

Brazil's supreme court on Friday ordered a nationwide suspension of Elon Musk's social network X after the company vowed to defy earlier court orders concerning content moderation and the appointment of a legal representative in the country. Hours later, the court issued a second order suspending some of the measures in its first 51-page order against X. A suspension of X in Brazil could cause business problems for Musk's already embattled company. Musk has repeatedly denounced de Moraes' court orders as censorship. In its Thursday statement, X said de Moraes court had taken "illegal actions" against the company.

AI in roboticsWhile "robots" typically invoke images of futuristic humanoid tech like Elon Musk's Optimus, Wolfe said he thinks "humanoid robots are not going to be the way." The non-profit advocacy is analyzing large internet platforms to see if they're properly monitoring their sites for hate speech. The report on Wednesday was based on an analysis of 560,000 comments on Instagram posts from five Republican and five Democratic women politicians with high levels of engagement. In prior election cycles, Facebook has also been a hub for the spread of misinformation and toxic content directed at political candidates. The CCDH researchers then used Instagram's own content reporting tools to flag the 1,000 offensive comments it manually discovered.
