CNN —The reaction from Democrats to Donald Trump’s 2024 victory is, to put it mildly, very much unlike their reaction to his 2016 win. When asked whether Trump’s win was legitimate, about 94% of voters said it was. This includes 64% who agreed that Trump’s win was legitimate and supported his presidency and another 30% who accepted Trump’s victory but indicated that they would oppose his presidency. A third of Clinton supporters in a mid-November 2016 ABC News/Washington Post poll said that Trump’s win was not legitimate. Democrats may have accepted Trump’s win, but he’s likely to upset them greatly during his presidency.

Luzerne County is one of many counties in Pennsylvania — and across the country — that shifted to the right this year. Kevin Kraynak, a Luzerne County native, traveled from his home in California to try to get out the vote. Luzerne County became a hotbed of election denialism in 2020, and Pennsylvania is an open-carry state. Just over 152,000 total ballots were cast in Luzerne County — about the same as in 2020. In only one other Pennsylvania county were Trump’s gains greater.

House Republicans’ razor-thin victory was propelled by Trump’s decisive win over Vice President Kamala Harris in both the Electoral College and the popular vote. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said Sunday that she has “no intention” of dropping the criminal case against a group of President-elect Donald Trump’s allies who sought to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Arizona. “I have no intention of breaking that case up. I have no intention of dropping that case,” Mayes, a Democrat, told MSNBC’s Ali Velshi. Those charged include big names like former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The case is set to go to trial in 2026, but the defendants have sought to have the case dismissed.

The last time the Dow, which represents larger, more established firms, saw a 1,000-point jump in a single day was November 2022. NBC News is projecting that Trump will finish with 276 Electoral College votes in his defeat of Vice President Kamala Harris, his Democratic opponent. Trump has promised to extend or enact sweeping tax cuts and deregulatory policies that are widely supported across the business community. That represents market pushback on one of Trump's key policy planks: A weaker dollar that would support U.S. exports.
