If I did see her, we'd usually have a brief exchange that went something like this: "How was your day?" I never planned to be the one to teach my teenage daughter to driveMy teen was more excited about learning to drive than I'd seen her in a long time. "You know, most of my friends' parents teach them to drive." Teaching my daughter to drive was daunting but ultimately very rewarding. It brought us much closer together and helped bridge the gap that often separates parents from their teenage children.

BOSTON (AP) — More than two dozen commercial drivers have had their licenses downgraded in the wake of a scandal involving State Police troopers allegedly taking bribes in exchange for passing test scores, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles announced Friday. The RMV said it identified 26 people who didn’t pass the test properly and changed them to Class D passenger licenses. The drivers, who were not named, will have to take and pass all the required permit and skills tests if they want to get commercial licenses. Calvin Butner, 63, of Halifax, and Perry Mendes, 63, of Wareham, both retired state troopers, were arrested in Florida on Monday. Cederquist is alleged to have conspired with Mathison, who worked for a spring water company that employed drivers needing commercial licenses, to give them passing scores; and with Camera, who worked for a truck driving school in Brockton, to help four state troopers get their commercial licenses.

Tokyo CNN —Police in Japan have implemented an unusual strategy in order to prevent drunk driving: encouraging people to consume alcohol and then letting them loose on a driving course. Instructors rode in each car during the initiative, which took place inside the driving school, a police spokesperson told CNN. “We hope that more drivers will realize how dangerous drunk driving is,” said the police spokesperson. Alcohol consumption in Japan waned during the pandemic, with restrictions hitting the business of bars and other places selling drinks. In a post on its website in 2021, it called excessive alcohol consumption a “major social problem” that persisted despite the recent slowdown in consumption.

"Teens with ADHD are one of the highest-risk groups of drivers on our roadways," said study leader Dr. Jeffrey Epstein of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. "Other than refusing or delaying licensure, parents have not had options for addressing their teen's driving risk." Teen drivers with ADHD are twice as likely to be involved in vehicular collisions as neurotypical teens, earlier research has shown. Rates of collisions or near collisions during these events were 3.4% in the intervention group versus 5.6% in the control group. At the same time, other aspects of the teens' driving will still need to be supported, he said, including compliance with speed limits and other rules of the road.
