CNN —Police are investigating incidents of arson, vandalism and attempted burglary at a historic synagogue in Philadelphia that occurred within hours of each other Tuesday. Surveillance footage released by police shows the suspect standing inside the dumpster, then smoke coming out of the dumpster before it’s engulfed in flames. Then, around 6:30 a.m., two men attempted to break into the synagogue, police say. Philadelphia police are asking the public for help identifying the suspects in the arson and attempted break-in. More than 500 people were rescued from an apartment complex in a non-evacuation zone in Clearwater overnight after Milton brought major flooding to the city, its mayor told CNN. “These people weren’t expecting this, but the rain came down so hard, so fast that it completely flooded this apartment complex,” he said. On Thursday, tropical storm conditions are expected in portions of the northwestern Bahamas. Just one day ago, Hurricane Milton’s tropical storm-force winds extended out 80 miles from the center. This trend is expected to continue until landfall, with Milton expected to bring tropical storm-force winds to much of the Florida Peninsula throughout landfall. Hurricane conditions are expected in some areas beginning Wednesday evening through early Thursday and are possible in other areas on Thursday. Hurricane Milton is still a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 160 mph, according to the 2 a.m. update from the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is quickly strengthening, already boasting winds of 65 mph, according to an update Sunday morning from the National Hurricane Center. It is forecast to intensify into a hurricane by Sunday night — and a major hurricane by late Monday. Hurricane and storm surge watches will likely be issued for parts of the western Florida coast on Sunday — with dangerous storm surge expected for some areas just slammed by Helene. “This is something that potentially would be greater power outages than what we just saw with Hurricane Helene,” the governor said, noting the state’s residents still have a couple of days to get ready. Assets deployed to assist with Hurricane Helene recovery in Tennessee and North Carolina have also been ordered back to Florida, DeSantis said.

Letcher County Sheriff Shawn M. Stines, 43, was arrested at the county courthouse in Whitesburg Thursday on suspicion of fatally shooting District Judge Kevin Mullins, 54, in Mullins’ chambers. The hearing itself will be conducted by a judge in a Carter County courthouse, about 100 miles from the crime scene, according to court officials, with the Letcher County courthouse having been closed for days because of the killing. Stines’ job made him responsible for security at county courthouses, including the personal security of judges, according to the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association.
