A woman told police she was sexually assaulted by a man she identified as Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump's choice for defense secretary, according to official records of a police investigation released in California on Wednesday night. John Lamparski / Getty Images fileHegseth’s attorney, Timothy Parlatore, told NBC News that the allegation of sexual assault against his client is false. Hegseth is innocent, eyewitness and video evidence confirms that she was the aggressor, and years later, she extorted Mr. Hegseth for money. The report said the unidentified woman, who later went to a hospital for a sexual assault exam, confronted Hegseth at the event because "she did not appreciate how he treated women," the report said. She and a group of other women went to a bar attached to the hotel, where she had more drinks, while Hegseth was allegedly also present.

The woman who accused Hegseth of assault broke into tears when asked about the matter by CNN reporters last week and declined to comment. The report, which identifies the accuser as “Jane Doe,” summarizes police interviews with Doe, Hegseth, conference attendees and a hotel employee, and includes descriptions of video footage from the hotel viewed by police. There, a conference attendee told police that Hegseth had touched her knee and invited her to come to his hotel room. Doe told police that her next memory after the argument was being in a hotel room with Hegseth. He said that he was “buzzed” that night after drinking beer and remembered going back to his hotel room with Doe.

President-elect Donald J. Trump has so far told advisers that he is standing behind Mr. Hegseth as his pick for defense secretary. The woman’s allegation, the outlines of which surfaced last week, have complicated Mr. Trump’s intention to have Mr. Hegseth lead the Defense Department next year. Mr. Trump has told advisers that he is standing behind Mr. Hegseth, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The complainant told authorities that she could not recall how she got to Mr. Hegseth’s hotel room or whether intercourse occurred. CNN —Five new lawsuits against Sean “Diddy” Combs have been filed by both male and female accusers who allege they were drugged and sexually assaulted by the embattled music mogul, who now faces more than 30 civil complaints. The majority of the new lawsuits allege that plaintiffs were sexually assaulted at parties hosted by Combs, with one incident allegedly taking place at the producer’s White Party in 2004. One accuser claims in his lawsuit that he was assaulted by Combs and his associates at a casting call for a music video. Attorneys for Combs denied the claims, but did not respond to specific allegations in the lawsuits. Last month, the lawyers said at a press conference that they were representing more than 100 plaintiffs with allegations against Combs.

One lawsuit alleges Combs sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl at one of his famed white parties. Combs' attorney denied the allegations, calling the lawsuits "publicity stunts" by attorney Tony Buzbee. "As his legal team has said before, Mr. Combs has full confidence in the facts and the integrity of the judicial process," said Wolff. CNN —An anonymous male celebrity says he is the victim of an extortion scheme and is suing a high-powered Texas attorney who is representing several people in civil lawsuits that accuse Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexual assault. Buzbee has said he is representing at least 120 alleged victims of Combs. The lawsuit filed by the anonymous celebrity claims that Buzbee’s firm is trying to capitalize off the “explosive allegations against Sean Combs” by roping in public figures who have been acquainted with Combs. In an interview with CNN last month, Buzbee explained that his firm initially files cases anonymously in an effort to protect the safety of his clients. “It is a cynical extortion scheme that is dressed up in vindicating victims of actual sexual abuse,” the lawsuit states.

A mystery celebrity has accused the high-profile Texas attorney who is representing dozens of clients in sex abuse lawsuits against Sean "Diddy" Combs of orchestrating an extortion plot meant to destroy his reputation. "It is obvious that the frivolous lawsuit filed against my firm is an aggressive attempt to intimidate or silence me and ultimately my clients," Buzbee said. "The letters were sent seeking a confidential mediation in lieu of filing a lawsuit," Buzbee said. The lawsuit filed against my firm is a prime example of that.

As an unwed woman and frequent wedding guest in 2024, I am maybe too attuned to the ways weddings have become increasingly extravagant. On Reddit, one user noted that being a bridesmaid in her best friend’s wedding in a Scandinavian town, where the friend’s family is from, is going to run her $8,000. And some guests are being denied plus-ones, making attending the wedding less of a joy and more of a dutiful chore. Even in times of high inflation, like now, while some may try to cut back, expensive weddings prevail. Weddings are the rare time in life where everyone you care about will likely come together — friends, family and loved ones.

CNN —After the suicide of a nonbinary student last February spurred a monthslong federal investigation, the US Department of Education found Title IX violations in an Oklahoma public school district including multiple failures to respond to notices of sexual harassment. The DOE’s Office of Civil Rights announced a resolution Wednesday with the Owasso Public School District to remedy Title IX violations linked to sexual harassment in district schools. The OCR investigation began last March, weeks after the death of nonbinary teen, Nex Benedict. The investigation also identified several other instances in the last three years when district staff failed to properly respond to sexual harassment complaints. The agreement between the DOE and the school district requires the district to implement new policies and procedures and additional training for staff and students.

But it isn’t always a deterrent – Combs’ former girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit accusing Combs of abuse last November. Judges weigh the John or Jane Does’ privacy rights against the Constitution’s presumption of open courts and the defendant’s rights to defend themselves. I do think that seeing a woman on the ballot will, hopefully, encourage more women to vote, even if they don't vote for Harris. At the time, I thought it was going to be a landslide, like 'We're about to have our first woman president.' I don't think everybody in the U.S. will ever be ready for a woman president, but I don't think everybody in the U.S. was ready for a Black president either. Even if Kamala wins, I don't think everybody in the U.S. is ready for a woman president, just like they weren't ready for a Black president. I think Harris is just bringing a lot of new people into the process who haven't necessarily felt included before.
