The Chicago Bears will get a head start on their search for a new head coach, but who will be among the prime candidates for the job? On the first football Sunday of the post-Matt Eberflus era in Chicago, NFL insiders weighed in on who the Bears may try to bring in for interviews as they conduct their search. Ian Rapoport, appearing on NFL Network’s NFL Gameday, said the team will consider a multitude of top candidates for the job. Things are likely to move slowly for now for the Bears, as the NFL season will roll into January, preventing them from interviewing candidates within the league. They will likely be able to conduct interviews during the postseason, but an announcement on a hire won’t come until their candidate’s season has concluded.

Governor Kathy Hochul on Saturday warned New Yorkers to avoid unnecessary travel. CNN —Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo posted a monster stat line on Saturday, notching his first career 40-point triple-double as the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Washington Wizards 124-114. The win moves Milwaukee to 10-9 on the season, the first time that the Bucks have been over .500 since winning their season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, Milwaukee has won six in a row and Antetokounmpo believes that a switch has been flipped. “If it was the third game or the fourth game of the season, we probably would have lost that game. Milwaukee is also in action on Tuesday, facing the Detroit Pistons to determine the winner of East Group B in the Cup.

An Arctic blast gripped the northern Plains, Midwest and Great Lakes Saturday morning, with millions of Americans under freeze warnings. The National Weather Service warned that the Arctic airmass is delivering the coldest temperatures since last winter. Wind chills in the northern Plains and upper Midwest are expected to plunge below zero Saturday morning. The National Weather Service said Friday that travel "could be very difficult to impossible" in spots downwind of the Great Lakes. A vigorous lake-effect snow event blanketing areas downwind of the Great Lakes, is expected to taper off early next week.

More than two feet of snow blanketed parts of western New York and Pennsylvania on Saturday, as a lake-effect snowstorm disrupted post-Thanksgiving travel and threatened to bring up to five feet of snow to some areas by Tuesday morning. The snowfall was heaviest along Interstate 90, the National Weather Service said, which hugs Lake Erie from Buffalo through Pennsylvania and on to Cleveland. In some areas, white-out conditions could be life-threatening, the service said. Jerry Byrne, director of the county roads commission, said that while traveling just a mile during the storm, drivers could go from clear pavement to white-out conditions. Interstates in Pennsylvania across the New York State line were impassable, the New York State Thruway Authority said on Saturday morning, and some areas remained closed to commercial trucks.

The risk of toxic emissions is greater when candles are scented or dyed, which is another reason why paraffin-free candles aren’t immediately in the clear. The association’s stance is based on an October 2021 study that consisted of burning 24 soy and paraffin candles, scented and unscented. However, the research was a joint effort between the NCA, the European Candle Manufacturers Association and the Latin American Candle Association. If you simply can’t resist using scented candles, look for those with essential oils or candles labeled as phthalate-free. When burning scented candles, do so in small doses to avoid headaches or irritation of the respiratory system or eyes.

Rico Carty, who won the 1970 NL batting title when he hit a major league-best .366 for the Atlanta Braves, has died. Major League Baseball, the players’ association and the Braves paid tribute to Carty on social media on Sunday. A family friend told Listín Diario — a newspaper in Carty’s native Dominican Republic — that he died Saturday night in an Atlanta hospital. The Braves moved from Milwaukee to Atlanta after the 1965 season, and Carty got the franchise’s first hit in its new home on April 12, 1966, against Pittsburgh. Carty had his best year in 1970, batting .366 with 25 homers and a career-best 101 RBIs.

Since nearly the start of the pandemic, scientists have known that a Covid-19 infection increases the risk of heart problems. A growing body of research now suggests that this risk can last until well after the infection has cleared. What’s more, the study found that infections severe enough to require hospitalization increased the likelihood of cardiac events as much as — or more than — having previously had a heart attack did. “A lot of people are at even greater risk of heart attack than they were before,” said Dr. David Goff, director for the cardiovascular sciences division at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, which provided funding for the study. So this is really concerning.”Given the volume of evidence now linking Covid-19 to heart inflammation, heart failure, arrhythmia and other cardiovascular issues, experts said, doctors should be taking a closer look at patients’ Covid history.

About 167,000 pounds of both fresh and frozen ground beef products have been recalled over possible E. coli contamination, according to the the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Fifteen people were reported sick as of Nov. 20, with symptoms beginning between Nov. 2 and Nov. 10. That same day, the FSIS said in a press release, the Minnesota Department tested a ground beef sample from Wolverine Packing Co. and found that it contained a strain of harmful bacteria called E. coli O157:H7. The FSIS provided a list of all affected products and images of every product label that is part of the recall. E. coli O157:H7 is the same strain of bacteria linked to onions in some McDonald’s Quarter Pounders in October.
